I've been staying there since I got here. I mean, I appreciate everything, but I shouldn't be there I think I need to be on my own now.

Peter entered his room to find the note on his bed. He picked it up, reading it over once. Twice. Three times. Max had just left without a real word. He bit his lip as he flipped it over in hopes that there was something else there. Nothing.

"Dammit, Max."

Max stayed up all night, in case Peter decided to come by. When he didn't show up, the hole in her chest sunk deeper and a lump welled in her throat. She thought about going to the roof of her new building but it was a poor substitution for the Space Needle and she didn't feel like moving.

So instead, she sat curled up in an armchair, staring blankly at the wall for what felt like hours. Eventually, she got up, switched off the lights, and went into her bathroom to take a shower.

Which was where she finally let herself cry.
