002: LOCATION: THE BRONZE [you'll never change what's been and gone]

It seemed that the gossip post had thrown everyone for a loop. Uhura hadn't been mentioned directly, but while talking to Kirk about it, Gaila had somehow come up in the conversation. Which meant she'd ended up thinking about her, really thinking about her, for the first time in weeks

Xander pretty much lives in the Bronze-- no, that's an exaggeration, but it is the place where he spends much of his leisure time. It reminds him of better, simpler times. Plus you meet the most interesting people. ...such as Uhura, for example. He spotted her from his seat on a nearby couch, and proceeded to walk over to her. He didn't need to be a paragon of emotional sensitivity to see that she wasn't particularly happy.

"Rough day?" He asked, doing his best bartender impression.

She blinked, a little startled at Xander's sudden presence beside her and just that made her realize how down she was - she was distracted, any other time she would have heard him coming. He wasn't unwelcome, though, and she turned to him with a small smile.

"How long have you been working on that? It was pretty good."

He smiled back, taking a seat next to her at a respectful distance.

"Thank you kindly-- and actually I worked in a bar for a while, so technically I'm a semi-qualified professional. That was until I got tired of all the drunken, rich frat boys and bailed. Also, my boss was evil. And that's by no means hyperbole."

...if this sounds like inconsequential chit-chat to distract her from her woes, it's because it is.
