I need to say it again so I can quote all the bits that made me laugh! I wish I weren't so crap at remembering lines, because there were so many deadpan, dry little moments. Though I didn't hear anyone else in the cinema laughing, which was weird.
Random moments as I think of them: Hawkeye jumping off the building. Natasha getting Cap to boost her up. Loki stabbing Phil. :-( Phil going 'that's what it does' after firing the phase two weapon. Thor trying to persuade Loki, Loki stabbing him, and Thor turning the tables on him. Tony and Bruce bonding over being brainy. Thor making an Asgardian reference and no one getting it. Cap getting the monkey reference. Natasha's interrogation techniques! Loki's 'I'll have that drink now'.
*g* I was probably amongst the loudest laughers in our screening. Our audience loved Coulson's fanboyism the most, I think. "Hulk. Smash!" got huge laugh as well
( ... )
I don't have any kind of comics background at all, so I'm sure lots of stuff passed me by.
I loved Tony's unshakeable faith that the Hulk was going to show up, as well. I love that he saw what no-one else had - that Bruce was really truly in control.
Yeah, that was awesome.
I'm not sure that I can get to see it again until next Friday or Saturday. Unless I can wangle something tomorrow, which I'm tempted to try.
What was the bit about the cellist? I didn't quite catch that.
So I refuse to believe the Unfortunate Event ended as sadly as the film seems to suggest. There is totally an unseen post-credits clip of Fury, Hill AND COULSON surveying their empire.
Curse you and your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Whedon. AGAIN.
(Also I genuinely do believe there's a cut scene where Natasha tells Clint what happened.)
I've already talked about this elsewhere but Tony mentions Life Model Decoys right at the start of the movie. And we don't see Coulson after he goes into the locker so, y'know, that's clearly what happened.
Anyway, this is comics, people rarely stay dead. (I didn't surprise me, really? Because it is Joss and Coulson was the perfect target for him, being a huge fan favourite but also minor, and he was a good character for the Avengers to pull together around.)
Also, yes to a scene like that! Joss said the first cut was 3 hours so it'll probably be on the DVD. I hope.
Yeah, I knew all those things and I didn't mourn at all until there was no more Coulson at the end, and now I don't know whether to mourn or not! It's just so hard!
My Mum said she was expecting applause at the end of the film. You know. From someone other than me. (This is because, as she never tires of telling me, Superman serials Back In The Day(tm) used to get people applauding and booing and basically behaving like it was a panto.)
I am impressed by and English audience applauding that, though! At mine it probably got one of the biggest laughs.
It is my firm belief that Fury just told them about Phil to get them fired up. There is no way he had time to call medics/the medics to get there/him to be pronounced. NO WAY. That mixed in with the lie about the trading cards, and it all doesn't add up. IT'S NOT TRUE.
Also, in the pre-screening I went to, when he was stabbed this guys screamed out "COULSON!!!!" extremely loud and painfully. It was kind of amazing.
Yeah. I think he probably left it open because the franchise calls for it to be and he may not write the next one so he had to leave it up in the air? I think if it had been a Joss!Franchise!Character there would be absolutely no room for question.
(Although spoilers? maybe? I've heard that Clark Greg is under contract for more films? Which could be a rumor but also could be true, so who knows!)
Also also, on the way back to the tube we hashed out a Clint/Natasha prequel movie with them and Coulson BAMFing around, possibly with Budapest, definitely with him not killing her. So that needs to happen.
I like to think if the long mooted Black Widow film gets made that it'll be half-origin story. So that would mean definitely seeing how Barton brought her in from the cold and why. Plus Coulson is obviously something like their handler, at the same time as being his own kind of BAMF, so he'd definitely have to be in it.
I'm hoping that the scene between her and Clint in the infirmary, about being broken down and rebuilt, is going to be a reference to her comic backstory. If so - she may get to have some of the enhancements her comic counterpart does. Making her even badder assed.
