He was talking with their manager on the threshold of the dressing room, when the corner of his eyes noticed a familiar figure approaching them.
He bowed politely to Meguro, who promptly imitated him as a reply.
"Thank you for your presence earlier, at the show," Michieda said. "It was quite interesting for me to notice how you always manage to handle the hosts' talks, while I am still inexperienced, sometimes. I still have so much to learn."
"Please, I should be the one thanking you," Meguro gently replied, eyeing him before glancing at the manager and back again. "During the shooting of the drama I already had the impression you seem to be able to make adults comfortable and feel at ease. You look genuinely pure, yet you never give off the idea you're this young whenever you talk. And it was just confirmed earlier. Everyone was impressed by your distinguished attitude. Me included."
Michieda bit his lower lips and bowed again.
"You're very gentle," he uttered, slightly embarrassed. "Thank you."
"It's nothing really," Meguro replied, smiling softly.
Michieda's manager excused himself after a few words with the young guy, who merely nodded and waved him bye.
"There's also Nagao-kun in Tokyo right now, for his drama shooting," Michieda explained. "The three of us came here all together from Osaka, and he'll be staying by his side at work for the upcoming weekend."
"I see," Meguro said, watching the manager disappear at the end of the corridor. "It's quite late, though. May I suggest walking you to the hotel?" he quickly offered.
"Oh. Thank you, but there's no need for that. Actually, I'm not staying in Tokyo this weekend," Michieda apologized, waving his hand gently. "Since drama shooting is over until Monday and it's Sunday tomorrow, I thought I could spend some time at home with my family... and my dogs. I miss them a little."
Meguro nodded absent-mindedly.
"It's so kind of you, anyway. Thank you really," Michieda went on, bowing slightly again.
"How about I walk you to the station, then?" Meguro insisted.
"No need, really. I'm sure you're already busy with... stuff," Michieda said, immediately regretting how he quickly reverted to conversational Japanese after the polite speech he had used in front of his manager.
"I'm actually not, tonight, I swear," Meguro revealed with a shrug, seemingly equally eager to talk to him in a more informal way.
Michieda nodded, accepting his senpai's gentleness as they headed out from the TV station and they took a taxi ride together and then a slow walk towards Tokyo Station.
Meguro had retrieved his coat and scarf and Michieda noticed how he looked as sophisticated as always; he himself seemed just the teenage boy he indeed was, on the other hand, with both hands tucked inside the pockets due to the cold and his lanky figure showing off just wrongly, as he glanced sideways at their glossy reflections on the classy shop windows in Ginza.
"So... I guess I would be no good by doing the 'hold-your-shoulder-from-a-shorter position' you mentioned before, right?" Michieda casually started out, giving voice to a thought that had been thickening in his mind for a while, ever since the TV show they had just been guests in.
"Uh?"
"I'm not as tall as you, of course, but I am still too tall to do that thing and look as cute as a girl would do," Michieda explained.
"Uhm... Not necessarily," Meguro quietly replied.
"Eh?!"
Meguro merely giggled at his puzzlement.
"Is it Ida-kun talking, right now?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Ah ah ah, it isn't! I swear!," the older guy replied, laughing earnestly.
Michieda narrowed his eyes, keeping his gaze on the young man walking beside him.
"Uhm, how should I say...", Meguro thoughtfully said, looking up to watch at the dark sky. "I don't know whether Koji might have told you, or you might have heard about it yourself," he suddenly heard Meguro confess in a resolute voice, "but a couple years ago he asked me a 3-names ranking about people I considered to be gifted with absolute beauty. One of those, to me, it's you," he concluded, turning to look him straight in the eyes.
Michieda blinked, frowning openly as if trying to dismiss the weird sensation that Meguro's words were stirring somewhere deep within him.
"H-he must have told you you were mocking him, just for the purpose of mocking his Kansai whims," he blurted out, unsure how to even react, for he knew, by know, that Meguro was not the kind of guy to say things he did not mean to actually say.
"That's EXACTLY what he told me, you got him just perfectly," Meguro beamed, giggling softly. "Ah, what I am even saying, of course you know him so much better than me, he's been your senpai for a decade after all... sorry, I'm an idiot."
"No way you are," Michieda said. "But it's true indeed, he's like an older brother to me," he added softly, "I love him."
"Anyway, I was serious when I told him so," Meguro continued. "You were even younger than today, but I have to confess I was really struck by your delicate beauty back then. I even wondered why there were not so many people who had noticed you out there. It honestly seemed impossible to me."
Michieda listened to his passionate words, biting his lower lip again.
Meguro looked stubborn and determined. There was no way he was lying, and even so, those compliments definitely felt too much for someone like him who had done simply nothing to deserve them.
"That is why I reckon -Micchi- could hold me by my shoulder anytime and still look rather cute," Meguro concluded, looking pretty amused and totally clueless about the random war of thoughts going on in the meantime inside his mind. Especially after the tender and slightly allusive use he had made of his nickname.
"Thank you," Michieda finally let out. "But the thing is, I'm not a girl."
"You don't look like one."
"I'm often told so."
"Man, people is blind," Meguro retorted, furrowing. "The kind of beauty you carry, I think goes well beyond genders. Or it might be totally unrelated to that, after all. Beauty is beauty."
"It's something which is also unrelated to me, though," Michieda said. "I didn't do anything special to look like this," he said, shrugging off. "Still, it's often the only thing people see about Michieda Shunsuke. That is why I have to work even harder to distinguish myself."
"I don't think so," Meguro objected, narrowing his eyes while looking intensely at him. "I mean, Suzuki-san and Fukumoto-san and all the people we're working with, they can all confirm you're a pleasure to be with. Just like I said before, you're a charming young man, and this also goes well beyond your appearance. Believe me."
Michieda nodded once, then twice and thrice.
"You're always too gentle with me, Meguro-kun. Thank you," he told him for the umpteenth time.
"I hope my words didn't sound too intrusive, though," Meguro quickly added. "Even during the show, I..." he trailed off, looking suddenly down, at his feet.
"Uh?"
"I'm really sorry, Michieda-kun," he revealed. "I think it might have been rude of me, when I said I was worried if I had to imagine you in some of those moments we were shown." His eyes went to Michieda's again, looking sorry. "But it's true I would worry. I cannot help it."
"Y-you don't have to be sorry!" Michieda quickly assured him. "I perfectly got what you meant to say and, again, it's so kind of you."
"It's not like I think of you as a child to protect," Meguro further explained. "But... I somehow feel like I would... I don't know. Make sure nothing in this world could harm your gentle smile and your soul, or something like that. You instill in me the desire of watching over you, and I don't know why. It's a first for me."
Michieda stopped walking, feeling a prickling heat radiate from his cheeks, and Meguro blinked at him, before realizing it was the effect of his own words.
"I-I'm sorry, it sounded weird, I guess," he quickly added, furrowing deeply.
"It d-didn't," Michieda replied, hiding half of his face in the upper hem of his lapel. "Thank you," he added, resuming his walk to enter the Tokyo Station building. Meguro quickly followed him, even though their walk had come to an end already.
Michieda retrieved his Shinkansen ticket and stopped by at the gates, turning on his heels to face his colleague.
"You made all the way here just for me. I'll make sure I'll get you a super special omiyage from Osaka for you when I'll be back on Monday," he offered, putting on his very best sparkling smile. "I really appreciated this walk with you. Thank you."
"My pleasure, honestly. Then, see you on Monday, Michieda-kun," Meguro replied, smiling tenderly.
"It's Shunsuke... kun."
"Eh?"
"Or Micchi," Michieda babbled. "Micchi is the way everyone calls me at home. Nanidan, my friends, the Kansai boys and so on. You can also feel free to call me like that if you wish. Or even Shunsuke. Yup, Shunsuke-kun."
Meguro stared very intensely at him, then smiled as softly as he had yet to see him, and he looked just beautiful, so attractive.
"I'm just Ren, then," he heard him say, "I'd also love to," he went on, bowing slightly. Michieda noticed the guy nervously ran his tongue over his upper lip, like he had learned he used to do whenever he was very nervous in admitting something yet very much pleased, at the same time. He liked it.
"But please don't tell Koji," Meguro quickly warned him, "or he'll get mad and he will start complaining by shouting randomly out loud like an idiot all day long," he said, winking at him.
"I can picture him looking like a kaiju indeed," Michieda said, laughing, to which Meguro laughed together with him. "A flaring Kojira, you know?"
"Kojira, ah ah ah!" Meguro repeated, laughing openly. "My bad, I'll have to resist telling it myself now... oh gosh... Kojira! Kojira! He's totally a kaiju!!"
Michieda watched him laugh, feeling his heart distinctively warm and fuzzy.
"You're truly amazing, Michieda-kun. Er, Micchi. Shunsuke…kun," Meguro said, stumbling on his own words thrice, yet pouting deliciously.
"Pinky swear?" Michieda asked, without offering him any finger to celebrate their little secret.
"Pinky swear," Meguro replied, skillfully intertwining his pinky finger with Michieda's, hands down, in such a fleeting and casual way that no one would have ever noticed they had almost tenderly held hands, amidst the crowd of people passing by.
The gentle touch of Meguro's finger in his felt warm, and so the older guy’s hand, and so his dark eyes, that were into Michieda's in a very unprecedented way, daring and soft and so much more.
Captivating he was, Michieda knew.
Good for him. He still had so much to learn from Ren-kun, after all.

Notes:
1. A kaiju is a giant monster belonging to the Japanese science fantasy sub-culture, like Godzilla.
2. "Kojira" is a pun for the words Koji and Gojira (Godzilla). Sorry not sorry, Koji-kun X3
3. Please bear with any inconsistency. Dunno if this show was pre-recorded (as I guess) or not, let's pretend it aired live on Saturday 16th straight. Also, dunno where exactly it was filmed, whether at Asahi's headquarter in Minato or elsewhere, so let's pretend it was Minato.
4. Sorry. First time writing about them, but I can't get the guys off my head and yes, we can blame KieKoi♥
