Well I got an early start on my vacation, which really should have started as of 4 PM today.
I'm not very grateful, because it's thanks to strep throat, which I haven't had in probably over 30 years - it never occurred to me. I had worked Thursday despite the sore throat and mild headache, thinking I had managed to acquire a cold. This despite daily temperatures usually 100+++.
Fortunately, I felt so bad Friday, I called in sick (I worry too much about things like "they might think I'm wussing out because of the weather, etc.") and then sat by my phone waiting for the minute Dr G's office opened. She got me in, scraped my throat(owwww!), and quickly told me I had strep. I had her write me a note for work, just in case, and went ahead and called in sick for Sat. too.
I've secluded myself from everyone the last 2 days, especially my mother, because of still being contagious.
I still feel pretty crappy, but at least it wasn't aggravated by 6 or 7 hours walking in 105 degree weather (heat index 110ish)
