ABOUT ME AND PROJECT FOR KIDS
Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog.
My name is Tatiana, I am the Director of the "Project for Kids".
"Project for Kids" is a NGO whose mission is to help children living in orphanages in Russia. We are located in Nizhny Novgorod. We operate since 2007 and help 11 orphanages in Nizhny Novgorod region.
Our key focus areas include:
1. Social adaptation of parentless children
2. Increasing awareness about adoption
3. Publishing informaiton about children in need of parents (based on our agreement with the local authorities)
4. Raising money to cover special needs of orphans
We have a website (which is in Russian, as I haven't had enough time yet to translate it into English). However, you can always contact me in English or French either via the website or by leaving a message here in my blog. The website address is www.deti.nnov.ru.
We are a volunteer organisation with 50+ members, most of them are Russian.
What help do we need?
1. Right now we are raising money for a number of projects:
- Kids for Environment Protection. In brief, children clean city parks of litter (there are quite a few heavily littered parks where we live). Then, they put up platelets with the following message: "We cleaned the park. Please leave it clean as well. Children from Orphanage No X". Kids get paid for their work. This project solves two goals: teaching children that most things don't come for free; teaching them to protect the environmemt. Approx. budget: 1,000 Euros per project (40 kids, two months).
- Support of families raising children with special needs. Intellectually challenged children living in orphanages have almost no chance for a successful future. They end up segregated in special schools, and even if the mental disability was wrongly diagnosed, there is no chance for the child to return to a regular secondary school. At the same time, there are families willing to take such kids in a foster family, rehabilitate them and give them a chance for a good education, tailored to the child's individual needs. However, foster families do not get adequate support from the government and cannot afford costly rehabilitation of special children. There are potential parents who, with adequate support, are willing to raise children with mental disabilities.
We suggest financing the medical and educational needs of such families, giving 10 children a chance for a better future.
Approx. budget per 1 year: 20,000 Euros per 10 children.

2. You can always donate money to cover the children's educational and recreational needs by way of creative workshops, guided tours, weekend trips, birthday gifts etc.
