So! Work today was phenomenally strange.
For one thing, I was supposed to have help running the store tonight. For those of you who don't know, I'm a "front end runner" at Shop Rite, meaning I basically lord over the cashiers and keep things running smoothly throughout the store. It's really a two-person job, since usually one person stays up by the registers to assist anyone who needs it, and the other is usually running around doing price checks or checking stock on certain items, etc. But, my other runner for the night couldn't make it, since she hurt her leg (pulled a ligament or a tendon or something, idk), meaning it was just me.
Me, and two new store managers closing that night, since one of our regular managers is being transferred to another store. So now it's me, the new manager, and the woman training the new manager. And these two can't do shit, which I learned upon taking my first break. I left at 6:25, for a 15-minute break. There were three cashiers on register who needed to be out by 6:45; two of them are required to manually count the money in their tills, since they're new and need to have their money under closer watch, a process which takes about ten minutes total.
I come back at 6:40, and all of those cashiers are still on register, and the two managers are nowhere to be seen. I later learned they were harassing the maintenance crew because one of the bathrooms was dirty. The bathroom is on the exact opposite side of the store from where they were supposed to be.
Fun.
Following that, we had a shoplifter try to pilfer two bags of clams and a DVD player. Seemed like a weird combination to me, but hey, whatever.
THEN there was Tim. No, not me, I'm talking about the new trainee Tim, who was hired yesterday and is supposed to be training to go on register. This is a young man who I am ashamed to share my name with. He is pretty much everything that I am not. He slouches, talks shit, acts like some kind of thug, and...oafjsjlsjdglkag he makes me so angry. THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH HIM:
Me: Hey, Tim, you're still training, right?
Tim: *incoherent mumblings and an affirmative grunt*
Me: ... Right! So, how about you go on register 8 there and train with Ashlee for a bit.
Tim: *mumblemumble, saunters over*
FIVE MINUTES LATER
Ashlee: Tim, uh, can I talk to you?
Me: Yeah, sure, what's up?
Ashlee: Ummmm... This isn't working. I can't train this kid, he's got the worst attitude I've ever seen in my life.
Tim: (Standing right behind both Ashlee and I) That bitch don't know me.
Me: . . . *turns around* Tim. Watch your mouth. You don't talk like that on the job, okay?
Tim: I didn't say nothin'.
Me: . . . . I heard you. I'm standing right here.
Tim: Then what'd I say, huh?
Me: I'm not stupid, I'm not going to repeat it. Just don't say it again.
Just to sum it up quickly, in one day he cursed at the runner who was working this morning, myself, and four different cashiers, while ON the register, IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS. I had a talk with the security guard who said he'd talk to one of the GOOD managers tomorrow and see if we can't get this kid fired or something. I'm normally much calmer about these things and try to give people a chance, but... I mean, I don't get it! You come into work, on your second day, and start giving everyone shit? If you're going to act like that, why the fuck did you take the job to begin with? If you don't want to work here, quit and go the fuck home. I'm not going to let you just...douche around at everyone like that.
Security dude said nega-Tim would probably be fired before I even get in at 3pm tomorrow. I half-hope he is so I don't have to see him again, and half-hope he isn't so I can fire the jackass myself.
"That bitch" don't know him, I don't know him, and frankly I don't want to know him. Get the fuck out.
...
And from there the day slowed down and things were pretty normal!
Sorry for raving, I don't think I'm guilty of it often so I hope it's alright this time. But this just goes to show you, there's only one great Tim, and all the others can kiss my ass.
No homo.
