Grades are posted. I got an A- in Spatial Modeling and an A in Adv GIS. Pretty exciting considering how busy I've been with work this semester, especially taking over a week off to go to Denver for the training.
Either way though I am glad the semester is over. Just this summer is a capstone project to work on. Which is like a thesis project. Which is good because I don't have classes, so I can work full time and actually make good money again. AND since I am doing my project on something for the forest, they will pay for my summer classes. That's 1700 dollars of credits I dont have to pay! Yes. Thank you for your tax dollars.
I've been looking/applying for jobs. I applied for one in New Mexico in the Gila National Forest. It's a GS 9 which is like 45,000 a year with GS 11 promotion potential. It's as an assistant archaeologist. And the forest has its own Cliff Dwellings. Really it is my main area of interest as far as work goes (if I can't work in Peru I want to work in the Southwest, either Anasazi or Mogollon cultures, and this is the heart of the Mimbres center!)
I got an email saying I made the cert (which means I made the short list), but they are looking to hire starting this summer and I wont be available till after I graduate in December...the woman I spoke with told me I had great quals and to throw my hat in the ring. So who knows, if they really want you, sometimes they will hold a position for you...heres hoping.
Either way Craig and I are leaving Tallahassee after graduation. Everything is up in the air. I will keep applying for forest service jobs in the GS 9 pay grade (maybe GS 7)...but if we don't get anything we are going to look into buying a used RV, and travel around the west booking temporary (2-3 week) long jobs digging for CRMs. Then we can basically get payed to travel. We may do that for a few months, then I wanted to try to get a month or so in doing some volunteer work in Peru.
Applying for a PHD programs for next fall (2010) is a possibility too. Buuuut, if I get a job with the Forest service and put in a few years, they can pay for me to go back and get my PHD, as long as I do my dissertation on something on whatever forest I am working on, which if it is in the Southwest, wont be a problem of interest on my end.
So that is the plan. Or several different plan options. Can't wait to be done and get out. I want to move out west so bad....but in less than a year I will be 26 with a masters degree, and that, is pretty awesome. Hopefully I'll be a district archaeologist as well.
So LJ, enough about me? How about you? What has been going on with you in livejournal land?
eh, I thought not much had changed. :) I'll be back in another few weeks or so...
