The Asterix books are pretty well known, I should think. Or if they aren't, they bloody well should be. Tales of Asterix, Obelix and the only Gaulish village not to fall from the invasion of the Romans, thanks to their druid Getafix and his magic potion. I mean c'mon, the village druid is called Getafix, surely that indicates the tip of the genius iceberg?
Our Gaulish village goes about its daily life, keeping the Romans at bay and generally going along happily. Happenings fall into the laps of adventurers, and off and about they go.
This time, the arrival of Asterix's cousin Anticlimax from across the channel, good ol' Britain, who is in a bit of a pickle cause the Romans have invaded, and the British want a bit of help.
So of course, Asterix and Obelex say they'll help out.
As always they go with a large send off from the village: some kind of speech from the Village Chief Vitalstatistix, the village bard Cacofanix trying to play them a farewell song, but always being thwarted one way or other by the blacksmith Fulliautomatix, be it through confiscation/destruction of his harp to kidnapping and restraining.
They make it across the channel eventually, of course meeting a Roman or two along the way, weather notwithstanding....
And so follow their adventures through the land of Britannia, to bring the barrel of magic potion to Anticlimax's village and his village chieftan, Mykingdomforanos (Shakespeare's Richard III, anyone?),(who has an uncanny resemblence to Winston Churchill, funnily enough), all while trying to avoid capture by the current Govenor of Britain, Encyclopaedicus Brtiannicus.
What follows is come comedic views of Britain (because Asterix was written by a French bloke, y'know)....
Transport at it's finest...
Ah, Rugby...
And the Tower of Londinium...
Yes, as you can imagine our Heroes pull through, and things go well for the Gauls and the Brits. Such is life.
And of course, it wouldn't be an Asterix adventure unless pirates were involved (and it's always the same group of pirates who get attacked too. Poor sods)...
Ah, I love Asterix books.
