Big day. We were gonna wake up at 10:30, but ended up waking up an hour or two earlier. Regardless, plenty of sleep was had. Ordered some breakfast and watched TV until it got there, ate and headed down to use the internet. I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt, but I was still super cold, so I put on my jacket. Put the laptops back in the room and then left for the J2 panel.
Damn that room was crowded. Got there early, so we managed to get the best seats we could when limited to the last two rows.
J2 panel:
Jensen was wearing an awesome leather jacket.
Jared was very silly and talkative.
Some dude asked how Jensen felt about Dean/Cas and the audience was like, “Noooooo,” and Jensen was like, “I am going to answer that question by not answering that question. Sorry dude, that’s not what the show’s about.”
A woman asked Jensen if he thought he was an “old soul” and everyone was like, “Whaaaat….?” and Jensen was like, “Yes…? I feel like I need to ask my mother; ‘Mom, am I an old soul?’ ‘What?’ ‘Just answer the question!’”
A couple of people asked some technical acting questions.
Jensen talked a bit about doing Red Hood and directing an episode of SPN.
Jared talked about the phone prank he pulled on Misha.
Someone asked what the weirdest, most disturbing thing a fan had ever done was and they said they were pretty fortunate that most of the fans are pretty cool, but someone once sent Jensen’s parents a spell that contained used underwear and Jared said, “Sorry, I thought I sent that anonymously,” and “’Used?’ I would say previously loved,” and Jensen said, “Well then those were some seriously loved underwear.”
They pretended to sleep whenever the other one was asked a question.
Jensen said that the show is different without Kripke, but mostly from a technical standpoint and that we probably wouldn’t even notice. (Like each episode is using more money and time, i.e. Sara is apparently less efficient.)
Questioner: “I actually just have a question for Jensen.” Jared: *headinvisibledesk* Jensen: “Don’t mind him.” Jared: *stands up, knocks over his chair, picks it up and raises it over his head* Jensen: “Now mind him.”
I’m tired so I’m having a hard time remembering anything else at the moment.
After the J2 panel we stuck around for Brock Kelly (young!Dean)’s panel. VanCon was his first con ever, so he was sorta awkward, but in an adorable way.
I got up to ask how he prepared for the role, (because I think he did an amazing job of portraying Dean) and he said he just watched the pilot episode over and over and talked with Jensen a little. Other questions included:
If you had a pet dinosaur, what would you do with it? (“Ride it.”)
What sort of dinosaur would you have? (“A T-Rex.”)
How did you get into acting? (“Dropped out of high school to go to Hollywood, but no one would hire a drop-out (Stay in school!), so I went back and finished school and then tried again.”)
How old are you? (“25.”) [Crowd: “Whooo!”] (“Um…”) I think they’re just happy you’re legal. (*blush*)
Went back up to the room and hung out for a bit until Jill got back. Jumped in a taxi and drove to Stanley Park where we walked around and saw the Totem Poles and got a wee bit lost and had some ice cream. Very pretty. It was fun, but would’ve been more fun if my foot didn’t hurt and we’d had more time.
Got back just in time for the photo ops with Brock. He has tiny ears, but is still devastatingly attractive. Andie jinxed herself by saying, “I might blink,” and then she did and they had to re-take the picture, but she got to hug Brock again so there you go.
Hung around the room for a bit more until 6pm-ish when we went downstairs to get our autographs with Brock. When we got to the door I realized that I’d forgot my wristband, so we went back up to the room, came back down, got inside, and I realized that I forgot the photo I was going to have him sign, so I ran up to the room again, so we finally got in the line for autographs 20 minutes late. Bleh.
I don’t know if it was because everyone in front of me was having him personalize the autographs or what, but I handed him the picture to sign and he looked up at me and then we sorta just stared at each other for like 5 seconds before I awkwardly said, “…Sign away.” He did and handed back the photo and thanked each other and then I stood to the side to wait for Andie to get her autograph and then we walked away. So that was sorta awkward, but in a semi-adorable way.
Andie, Jill and I walked down the street 3 blocks and had dinner at The Griffin in the Fairmont hotel. Andie and I spilt some delicious mushroom ravioli and Jill had some shrimp. They had a dessert bar with lots of yummy stuff including some awesome chocolate mousse and crème puffs. They used gooseberries as a garnish and , after making sure the weird orange berry thing was edible, ate my first gooseberry. They’re very yummy. Tart. Sorta like a mix between a strawberry and a blackberry I think.
On the way back to the hotel we saw some more street art, stopped in a HMV store (sorta like a Barnes&Nobel/FYE) and I took some pictures until my camera died.
We dropped off some stuff, picked up our laptops and went downstairs to use the internet until 11pm when our Brock photos would be available.
Got the pictures (Andie got two because she “fucked up the first time”. Quite funny.). Andie was wearing her Cosby sweater. Glorious. We were sorta punchy, so it took us a bit to get ready for bed and fall asleep.
