george carlin is my new grandpa (but he doesn't know it yet)

saturday night, my sister, my dad, and i went to see george carlin at the meyorhoff. that man is so amazing. he turned 70 this year, and he's still going strong. he had us laughing so hard we were crying. talked about a lot of things that were extremely appropriate to us, like stuff we had been discussing lately, and he said "parents should warn you when you're a kid 'bullshit ahead' and that you should question everything", and i turned to my dad and said "that's what you did for us!" i just love how much he hates stupid christians and uninformed america. my favorite was when he was talking about how when someone dies and someone says "i think they're in heaven looking down on us, smiling. but they never consider maybe that family member is in hell. no one ever says 'i think she's in hell, smiling up at us. grandma's in hell, smiling up at us, baking a cake, with no oven." it was really great for the 3 of us to spend time together. don't get to do that too often. being adults now, our relationship with our dad is very different, but in a good way. we get to see dad uncensored, and he's really just like us in just about every way. i'm so fortunate that my parents are absolutely amazing and pretty much never the pain i thought they were when i was a teenager.

i'm trying to make my house look as nice as i can, and for me to do it i have to do as much as possible at one time or i'll get unmotivated. sunday night after work i painted the railings and the bedroom door that nick never finished fixing. this morning richie and i woke up at 6:45am to take our horrible stained up ripped up 15+ year old couch and a bunch of other crap from the back yard to the dump. we had to rent a u-haul to do this since no one has a truck. the dump was really muddy too cause it was raining a little today, so we got mud everywhere and had to clean it all up. we didn't get done til almost 11, and i had to go to work at 1. i got a 45 minute nap and i really didn't wanna get up to go to work. i'm really glad we got this done though, it feels like we finally have room in our house!

heather is moving her stuff to mike's again cause he got a new place. tomorrow morning i've got people coming to redo the floors upstairs (hallway, stairs, 2 bedrooms) cause my carpets are trashed and have been for quite some time. they're doing pergo in the hallway and middle room like what i have in my living room, and a slightly darker, sturdier carpet in heather's room and on the stairs. i'm taking the cats to the vet sometime soon to get soft paws so they don't think new carpet = scratching post. plus i need to find some of that plastic carpet protector for where i put the litterbox.

i'm so happy with the way everything is going right now.

george carlin, house stuff, happy!
