What I have been up to.....

Nov 25, 2007 18:30

I arrived Thurday and basically did a bit of food shopping at Waitrose and collapsed in a heap.

Friday (cut and past from an email to my mother) -

Found some Noel Coward playbills for Chris (spent 24 pounds BUT he has looked after my house so well the last couple of years).  Got 2 scarves for a fiver.  Found a nifty book on teaching medical ethics at Foyles (which somehow ate over an HOUR of my time).    I successfully resisted the hard back annonted copies of Hans Christian Anderson and Grimms Fairy Tales.  Went looking at half price theatre tickets and worked out its sometimes actually cheaper to get the upper balcony seats from the theatre.  Found out that I can get best in house on the day for 20 pounds for Avenue Q (which is generally over 50 pounds) if I show my student card.  I suspect others will be similar.  Havent made it down Oxford or Picadilly yet.  My hips are not liking me at the moment - not sure why.  I walked from College to Oxford St, along Charing Cross road to Leiscter Square, up to Covent Garden and back down to Lecister Square then jumped the Tube home.  Had lunch at Freddies - an ok goats cheese salad, but the goats cheese was a bit hard and too rich for my tummy.  Also dropped into LSHTM and left a message for Pat saying I was in town and asking did she want to catch up.
Have got the internet working in my room with a little help from the help desk.  Have organised tickets for tomorrow - will pick em up around 11:30ish.  Am meeting Charlotte at 12:30.  The expo opens at 12, so hopefully this will allow us to get in just after the main rush.
Was wandering around print stores near Charing Cross road and found one that is selling Hogarth Prints from the original plates.  The one I saw was 150 pounds.  There were QUITE a few others, all similar prices.
Am thinking I may now go oggle at the Selfridges Christmas store and attempt to find a new watch band.  Weather still holding out - hoping it stays this way as Sunny london is winter is actually quite nice.
Have bought post cards and intend to post them. (/end email)
After this I went down to Selfridges and got lost as they have redeveloped.  Found out Theo Fennel doesnt stock my watch bands anymore.  Bugger.  Wandered through Miss Selfridges and drooled at the most gorgeous soft leather bomber jacket.  It was SOOOO SOOO SOOO lovely...but it was 180 odd pounds!  I then walked down Bond street and drooled at the jewellers windows.  I think I accidently steamed some of them up.
Walked down Picadilly via Fortnum and Masons, where I felt VERY old in the food hall - I swear most of the staff hadnt hit puberty yet.  Tried a Vacherian chesse from Mont d'Or.  It was VERY yummy. Bought some turkey and doerwors.  Walked to Picadilly Circus, jumped a tube and came home.  Met up with
forest at Euston and had a lovely perverted chat about photography, the Sex Expo and various other things.
madshutterbug you really need to check his
artoncamera journal.  Came back and talked to Stephen on the phone.  Watched some telly and then slept.

Saturday -
Caught the tube to Knightsbridge.  WAndered Harrods and found that there is an 8 week wait to order my techno marine watch bands.  Had to make emergency phone calls to Auntie Margie and Mum to report the fact that I had seen 8 Christmas Crackers for 499 POUNDS! They both died of shock.  Wandered around the shops before I jumped a number 9 bus towards Aldwych.  Realised that I should have jumped an number 9 to Hammersmith, so got off at the Ritz and crossed the road to get the other side to go in the right direction.  Got off at Kensington Olympia to be met by a bouncy fluffy hyperactive Charlotte.  We spent a couple of loverly hours at Erotica 2007 passing snide comments at the large girls in corsets who didnt wear them properly.  Biggest irony??  I travelled half way around the world to see Charlotte fall in love with a 20" waist cincher from House of Fetish in Sydney!!!  I saw some gorgeous jewellery in silver, but just couldnt justify 60 pounds for a silver braclet without hallmarks.  Some lovely stuff but some very tawdy stuff as well.  Not sure it was really worth the 24 pound entry fee.  However Dita Von Teese made it all worthwhile.  All I bought I will never ever look at  Merry Go Rounds the same way again. (nor parasols for that matter).  We left around 4:45 and I headed back to the club with directions from Charlotte on how to get to the pub for her party.  Made the party at about 7:15 after thinking I was lost as I went down Brook Green from the far end.  Saw Lucy who I havent seen since Charlottes wedding last year.  Had a lovely bitch with Marios (Charlottes hubby) about how idiotic undergrads are, and a long talk with 2 of Charlottes friends who I ended up walking to hte tube with.  Tube got stuck at Holborn so I got off and walked.  Collapsed exhausted into bed and slept until mum rang me this morning.
Sunday -
Today will be a seperate entry!
