I've picked up the Abney Park roleplaying game, and plan on running it soon, but two of my friends have commented on how bleak the setting is. The thing is, when I think 'Steampunk' the term 'bleak' seems to fit very snugly. Dark Side 'Cause It Looks Cool:  The Failings of Moral Choices in Games

I have to agree pretty much here.  I've tried a bit of Dragon Age (lost interest rapidly though), and the choices made didn't seem to have a lot of impact except on the 'we like you' indicator for the NPCs in my party.

I've had a conversation with Cat (and others) about the Supernatural series, and world building.  Specifically, Cat feels that the creators of Supernatural 'didn't do their homework', and while this may be true, I think for the setting, it doesn't matter that much.  The other thing is, the series doesn't really explain where monsters come from, or ( Read more... )

Been thinking about this the last little while, and after a long, long discussion on the subject, I'm wondering.  In some RPGs, there are sacrifices and losses a character can suffer.  What do you consider 'acceptable'?

My wife just picked up Inferno last week for White Wolf. An interesting book, deals with demons and such in a World of Darkness setting. Last night, as I was dealing with insomnia, something occurred to me.
