So I'm playing
Zenerchi, which has some nice music, and could, in theory be relaxing and enjoyable.
Except for the fact it gives a time limit for the game. There's a mode you can unlock called 'zen mode', but that has a completely different type of 'time limit'. You have blocks with counters on them, and if you don't get rid of these blocks within the time limit, they 'freeze', locking that ring of the board.
You know what? There's one major peeve I have with a lot of games -- time limits and 'you will lose' events. I play games like this to relax, and I hate hate hate having to stress over a time limit or having the game get progressively harder and harder with artificial, random, 'lose' scenarios.
I wind up getting headaches when I'm sitting there trying to solve the game, and see the timer running out. It gets worse when there's a 'special event' you can get by getting a high enough score, and your time plays a significant part of getting that score.
If this game had another mode, where it had the set-up of the normal game but no time limit? I'd like that. I could sit back, fiddle with the game, and just relax. Either that, or slow the freaking timer down so I don't feel pressured to do everything now now now!
Galapogo is another game I had wound up picking up. It is a lot like Bejewelled, but with cute frogs and crawling things. It has a time limit mode... but there's another mode with no time limit at all. You're not even penalized for not having a time limit, though the 'unlockables' come early if you play with the time limit. Without the time limit, you need to beat all the levels. See? I liked Galapogo because I didn't have to deal with the freaking time limit thing, and there wasn't any pressure. It was a good game for unwinding with.
Ah well. Zenerchi will either tick me off enough that I'll stop playing it all together, or I'll be obsessive-compulsive enough to beat the damn thing. We'll see. A shame, though, since it is a nice-looking game.
