In this context, a "'burner" is a participant in the Burning Man Festival subculture, or that of its many spin-off regional events ("baby burns") which take place around the country through the year. (including a very pleasant one, Frost Burn, at out beloved Cooper's Lake in the depths of winter).

A "burner" is somebody who goes to Burning Man, in which four times as many people as go to Pennsic show up in the middle of the Nevada desert ( ... )
