Chimps killed because of human error

This article just pisses me off and depresses me on so many levels. First of all, if any animal at all can pose a serious risk to people and is kept in an environment such as a zoo where there will pretty much always be stupid people milling around, you would think that greater precautions could be taken so that -- oopsie! -- leaving a single door or barrier unlocked wouldn't facilitate an escape. Furthermore, if they intended to tranquilize the chimps, you would think that authorities at this zoo would have had the basic knowledge to provide enough sedatives to actually tranquilize them. "Uh, oh, after five minutes it still wasn't working, so we, uh, had to kill them."

Whoever wrote the article also wound it down by choosing to emphasize how chimps are dangerous to people by citing an attack out of context. The example the pisshead CNN writer used, was of two idiots who'd kept an adult chimp (more than one, maybe?) in their home illegally after (I think, if I remember correctly) having (again, illegally) purchased it in another country. The chimp had been seized by authorities and the couple went to the rescue ranch where the chimp had been placed to throw the chimp a birthday party, insisting on treating the chimp as if it was their cuddly-wuddly kid. The quote:

The danger chimps pose to humans was highlighted when a man and his wife were attacked by chimpanzees March 3 at the Animal Haven Ranch near Bakersfield, California. The man was severely mauled and the woman lost part of her thumb before the animals where shot to death.

How about an out of context blurb on the danger humans pose to chimps?
