In light of the recent news about
Osama Bin Laden's death, I'm thinking that my thoughts on yaoi the most recent episode of Doctor Who probably aren't all that important in the grand scheme of things.
But you're getting them anyway. Muahahaha.
Oh, show.
I think I've mentioned this before, but I think Steven Moffat has a gift. That gift? Instilling paper-thin plotlines with sufficient heart and charm that the viewer doesn't care that everything is, at its heart, totally ridiculous and makes no sense. Inevitably, the narrative running in the back of my mind goes something like this: "This plot twist only works on a very superficial level. But it's cool and also the Doctor is wearing a cowboy hat and -- wait, what was the question?"
And I'm okay with that, because his characters are glorious.
I'm late to the River bandwagon. I wasn't sure what to make of her at first; while I had seen bits and pieces of earlier seasons, I didn't start watching regularly until Matt Smith came on as Eleven, so I'd missed her formal introduction. But it's become apparent to me that, like pretty much everyone else on this show, she's awesome, and for that I'm grateful.
I won't gush about everyone else, because otherwise we'll be here all night, but I will say this: Rory the Roman. The love I have for that guy, it is immense.
Of course, given my stated pro-lunar module agenda, I have to comment on the setting. Well, not so much comment as flail my arms about in a somewhat embarrassing fashion. (The Doctor tearing apart the command module, oh god.) I will say, though, that my favourite bit? The smug look on Richard Nixon's face on the occasions he's able to show off his time-traveling space alien to his various hapless underlings. Hilarity.
And then there was Mark Sheppard. I'm not sure, exactly, that I understand the chart of his trajectory in my brain. He was a character actor I liked, then he was a character actor I really liked for reasons that were mostly arbitrary (i.e., he had talent and comedic timing, of course, but what elevated him above the others in my mind was some previously undefined variable I hadn't quite worked out yet).
Then he was suddenly really hot.
It's... unexpected, and possibly not helped by the fact that the character of Canton Delaware was a freaking awesome Fed in a suit running around with a loaded firearm.
But still. I'm both amused and a little bit scared.
(Unrelated: How cute was it that they had Sheppard's father play his older self? Answer, very.)
Oh, and guess who finally got around to finishing Portal 2? ♥ So playing that through again with the commentary turned on.
One last thing, for the lulz:
That Mitchell and Webb Look - Fake Moon Landing.
What's your favourite thing about space? Mine's space. Space. Going to space. Can't wait.
