How many scarves *does* a person need, anyway?

While in St. John, NB a few weeks ago, nightfalltwen and I wandered into her local yarn shop. Since it was after Christmas, the store was having a 30% off sale, which means only one thing - I spent some serious Canadian Monopoly money! One of the things I picked up that morning was some pretty hand-dyed cotton yarn from Italy, which I thought would be perfect for the Lovely Leaf Lace scarf pattern I found over at purlbee.com.

The second end, which as you can see I'm working on now. The pattern calls for two individual pieces, the first part in the lace pattern and the remainder in a basic stockinette stitch, to be joined in the middle. Weird, I know, but they seem to know what they are talking about. We shall see when it comes time for me to actually join 'em up.

Closeup of the leaf pattern itself. Since I'm using a fwoopier yarn (totally my definition there, folks!) than what is called for, the scarf is turning out a lot looser and airier.

The completed first end of the scarf. I absolutely love the colorway (and no weird pooling either. Hooray!) The design of the scarf dictates that it "rolls" on the sides to fit snugly around the wearer's neck, so the occasional flares you see are not my fault. ;)

w00t!, i made this, fiber art
