It's my birthday today, and it's been a generally pleasing day, with a nice mix of working, not-working, talking to people, Skyping with my parents, receiving birthday greetings on facebook and by text, and being embarrassed half to death this morning by my fellow medievalists (including advisor R), plus grad program admin RR, AW, office-mate RB, and various others bursting into my office to sing happy birthday and bring me artisan doughnuts and chocolate and a really egregiously sizable Starbucks gift card.
I already have part of my birthday present from my parents, in the form of a Henrik Sedin jersey, and hopefully sometime this season the Canucks will recover enough from their horrible start to 2014 enough for me to wear it without fearing that I'm cursing them by its very existence. Equally excitingly, however, they're also sponsoring my purchase of some pieces from the china set I've adopted as my spinster china. I've recently decided that there's no reason to wait on the prospect of a future life partner to acquire china, and therefore with parental sponsorship plus some of my birthday money from my grandparents, I plan to acquire
this butter dish,
this sugar bowl, and probably
these bowls. I am excite! I also already have a large casserole dish in this pattern, from my birthday last year.
I was going to post some deeper, less food-and-presents-related thoughts on being thirty, and maybe I still will, but right now, I feel the need to take my undeniably adult self to bed to read some Sherlock fanfiction before I go to sleep.
