Oops, I almost missed posting because I was facebook-chatting with Mel, who's currently living in Oxford and working on her PhD, and who has taken to messaging me in the evenings here sometimes, because she keeps the oddest of hours. But chatting with her was good, because as I was attempting to say yesterday, I need more talking to people (who know me and want to hear about things that are going on with me) in my life.
It also salvaged my evening after a fit of T-induced rage, because the MBTA apparently doesn't want anyone to travel by public transportation between Cambridge and Brighton on Sunday evenings. I went over to Cambridge for supper with Z, and had a relatively good time, but afterwards, I discovered that the 64 bus between Central and Oak Squares, the best link between my neighborhood and Cambridge, now stops running at 6:00pm on Sundays. HORRORS! To get home, I ended up taking the Red Line from Central to Harvard Square, catching the 66 bus at Harvard Square, and transferring to the 57 bus at Union Square in Allston. BUT, that procedure took me a solid... hour and three quarters? My favorite part was having to wait half an hour for a bus in Union Square, because without me realizing it, the MBTA closed the bus stop that used to make for the easiest connection between a Brookline-bound 66 bus and an outbound 57 bus. There was a 57 bus arriving right as I got off the 66, so I ran across the street to the stop, only to have the bus drive right past me. Several minutes later, I discovered the tiny sign in the bus shelter informing me that the stop had been closed. I walked to the next stop to wait for the next bus. By the time it arrived, a group of people had gathered at the closed stop. The next bus stopped there to pick them up. EFFFFFFF! The whole trip was so long that I had to pay twice, because my transfer expired! Not to mention that I could have walked faster - Central Square to Oak Square is only about 3.5 miles/5.6 km, although not a route that I'd be totally comfortable walking in the dark.
So yeah, the MBTA, thumbing its nose at human dignity since
Charlie handed in his dime at the Kendall Square Station.
Other accomplishments of the day included cleaning the bathroom, and not skyping with the parental units, given my T-induced rage.
