Okay, I think it's time for me to combat the general deadness of both livejournal and dreamwidth by posting to say that I, for one, am alive and well and living in my parents' basement (although that isn't strictly true - I'm living in their first guest room, which is upstairs, and also technically mine).

I guess the last time I posted publicly was before I left Rennes (I started a post from Boston, but never finished so I posted it privately). My trip back to Boston went pretty much according to plan, minus a few minor flight delays, as did my three days in Boston. I got back to the Okanagan on Friday evening, and haven't done a whole lot since. I observed the Canada Day long weekend! And slept a lot...

I'm still feeling a little disoriented and a little sad about not being in France any more if I think about it too hard. My clothes still smell like my apartment in Rennes! Yesterday I went to one of the local farmers' markets with my parents and my brain was really surprised that it was being conducted in English! I'm afraid my French is already threatening to slip back into hibernation - I have to send some emails in French today, and maybe to reassure myself that I still can, I'll continue the re-watch of the Nicolas Le Floch mysteries that I started on my trip home when everything started being in English and was awful.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), I'm not going to have much time to wallow, because now that I've had a few days to relax, it's time to start in on my demanding summer of productivity, now made even more demanding by the revision I've decided my article needs. Today I'm going to go down to the Okanagan branch of UBC and see about getting borrowing privileges there, but before that, ALL THE EMAILS.

Oh, and I must report that while I was back in Boston, I both signed the lease for my renewed occupancy of my old apartment with promising-seeming new roommates, and got a fantastic haircut. In substance, it's not that different from my previous few, but I held out until I was back in Boston rather than submitting myself to a random French hairdresser, and it was worth it. Ruthie the Hair Whisperer completely outdid herself. It's even excellent in bed-head form (as currently)!
