I'm in Victoria! The weather is beautiful, and Cormac and I are staying with family friend RM and his excellent girlfriend JW in their sweet apartment in what turns out to be a truly swanky neighbourhood in Victoria. I think we're about to go out exploring after a lazy morning, but I'm not sure what the plan is.
Apparently we missed a 6.4 earthquake just off Vancouver Island yesterday at lunchtime as we were driving between Merritt and Hope - or rather, as I was driving. Cormac was far more sleep-deprived than I was yesterday, so I did a lot of driving. I drove from Merritt onto the ferry at Tsawwassen! And nobody died! I took a wrong turn heading for the ferry, when there was a major and supremely well-marked exit for the ferry immediately following our entry onto highway 99, which I completely missed. We ended up driving toward White Rock until the first exit for White Rock, at which point I also totally missed the exit to get back on the same highway northbound. U-turning ensued, but we made it, and we made the 4:00 sailing to Victoria we had reservations for. Yay!
Other than that, I have to find some time today to do work, so I can finish my K'zoo proposal and figure out my plan for the first week of that writing group I've joined. I'm hoping to find a Starbucks or something to camp out in. The company here is lovely but it's not exactly motivating me to buckle down!
