ACK. Apparently the combination of France, Haskins, and being done with Haskins and back from France have killed my desire to communicate with the outside world.

I totally meant to post my update sometime this evening about what I learned working in the archives, but yeah, no. Maaaaybe I'll post it in the morning, to refresh my memory of all the things I want to tell advisor R during our meeting tomorrow morning about it, but we'll see. I'm also providing commentary on fellow medievalist AM's paper in the department's newly revamped ABD History Workshop, and should probably prepare for that.

That said, while my desire to communicate with the outside world is sadly depleted, I have been having many enlightening and enjoyable chats with my fellow medievalists as I attempt to catch up with the doings and happenings of the department since I've been gone (although not all of the doings and happenings have been good).

I've also started to feebly lap the shores of productivity by transcribing some of the documents I photographed in the archives. I am ridiculously proud of myself for deciphering "subter de via calciata," "eorumque qua in antea," "et concessit inminuter," and "ad intremium" in a particularly indecipherable early-twelfth century charter this afternoon.

I should also note that I went through the place formerly known as "Intremium" on a bus a week ago Monday on the way to Mont-Saint-Michel. It's now called "Antrain," and I didn't think it was particularly exciting at the time, after going through Tremblay (which is the main location of the charter in question), but I know better now!

haskins omg, france 2010, grad school, fun with charters
