Well, today grew in its unfolding, from very inauspicious beginnings. My poor iPhone began the morning running sluggishly and making alarming sad hard drive noises, and I began the morning in a mighty panic that in content was about (what else) The Fellowship but in origin was more about having to lead introductory discussion sections today. I worked out most of the angst on my walk to campus, and once I got there, I rebooted my iPhone. The reboot seemed to make it happy again, which also went a long way toward making me happy again. The rest of the woe dissipated in the course of the day as I met my students and they didn't eat me (and some were even happy to see me)!
I've also been pleasingly productive since I dismissed my last class. It was a little strange not to have fellow medievalist A around to go and have Chipotle with, but I snacked and survived. Hopefully J will reappear on campus soon so the two of us, at least, will be able to continue our Wednesday afternoon, post-teaching lunches at Chipotle. But in any case, it meant that today I was able to catch up on my emailing and work on making myself a reading list and life plan for the semester. I've also taken the first baby steps toward reconstructing all the writeups of my reading for comps that I lost in the great hard drive death of summer '09 (needless to say, I've also started backing up my new writeups). After the past lazy, lazy month, the productivity felt good.
The next couple of months are going to be pretty hectic, according to my life plan for the semester, so it's a good thing the productivity felt good.
Finally, the best thing about today, that arrived after the day was decisively on the upswing, but kept it swinging up, was the lovely email I got from erstwhile advisor A - very lovely.
And then randomly, my grade nine and ten English teacher emailed me this evening, which was just intriguing enough to be pleasing. I suspect he took advantage of the fact that the probability of my email address appearing in the top google hit for my name is something approaching one. In any case, I don't know if I'm going to be able to help him with his question, but I do look forward to filling him in on the last several years of my life.
So, it's turned out to be quite a good day, all told.
