*Sigh* Circumstances have aligned mightily against me today. First of all,
amyheartssiroc posted a compendium of Prof C quotes, which were awesome, but far, far too nostalgia-inducing. Then, this evening, the Colgate Annual Fund called to extort my money. The girl who called me turned out to be one of the lucky, lucky people who's going to London in the spring with the history study group and Prof C. *CRIEZ* I spent half an hour on the phone with her, reminiscing about the history department and Colgate in general. She assisted, but still.
I am so, so pathetic. Seriously, I graduated from Colgate a year and a half ago, I should not miss it this much. I should not miss Prof C this much. *Siiiigh*
On the bright side, the annual report to donors, to which, as a donor (a repeat donor, even - I'm making donations increasing annually by multiples of 13 at present) I have access, is really a thing of slightly-stalkeriffic glory. *cackle* Plus, it was so glee-inducing to see my name and my class year on the list, along with my dad's cousin's (class of 1971), and les parents, bien sûr. So that was fun, although it didn't really help the RAGING NOSTALGIA.
Also, apparently Prof C has been making the future denizens of the London history study group read past honors theses, including mine. The girl I talked to hadn't actually read mine, but she'd heard a presentation on it. Eep?
In other assorted news, I've signed up for Pandora Internet Radio in a desperate attempt to discover new music. I'd heard of it before, but cubicle-mate E introduced me to it formally yesterday.
Speaking of my cubicle, I went and talked to advisor R today after seminar, and she totally mocked me for my lack of cubicle-decor. Hmmph. But I have nothing to put on the walls to decorate it!
On the talking to advisor R front, that went well. She showed no evidence of evil plans to turn me loose to the four winds on the grounds that I'm working too far outside her current area of interest (don't even ask), and we discussed my exam fields, even. I think three of them are settled, at this point - a major field on Europe in the central middle ages, and minor fields on early modern France/New France and pre-modern Islam. The last one is still up in the air, though - it could go archaeology or medieval French literature, depending.
Advisor R is, in addition, very sympathetic to the teaching thing and expecting that my productivity will accordingly be less than optimal this fall.
My meeting with Prof G went well this morning too. As it turned out, Prof G in no way expected me to finish that book this week, so she was actually quite pleased with my progress.
Quoi d'autre? Hmm. I haven't been very productive at all, but I did make a vaguely-thai wrap for my lunch tomorrow, using my homemade peanut sauce (have I mentioned that here before? It's excellent...), some rice, some carrot, and some cucumber. I'm anticipating it mightily, although I'm not sure I'll actually make it to campus for lunch tomorrow, so I might have to save it for Friday. I've ordered a new set of earphones for Tonaí George VI the iPod, and they're supposed to be delivered midmorning tomorrow, but that requires my signature, so I'll be lurking until they arrive. The wrap will, no doubt, be lovely whenever I finally get to eat it, though.
Hmm, ah yes, and that other thing, which is that I think I've gotten myself roped into an Old Norse reading group meeting alternate Fridays to... read Old Norse. And, you know, learn it. Possibly not my best idea ever, but Old Norse!
Even if what I should really be learning is Old-ish Breton...
