A Mountain out of a.... Mole.

I have a mole. Well, actually I have quite a few moles. *shrug* It's a trait of the breed; they run in the family. So more accurately put: I have a specific mole. On my face. On my upper lip. On the right side. It's been there for about as long as I can remember and is as much a part of my face as my nose, or my ears, or indeed as the lip upon which it is situated. Of late it has been a topic of conversation, or at least statements of opinion.

"It's getting bigger, Tarilyn."
"It's just not as cute as the other two, Tarilyn."
"It distracts from the rest of your face, Tarilyn."
"You really should consider getting it removed, Tarilyn"

Well... I'm vain enough to want to do what I can to improve my appearance, most of the time, so I began conducting an informal poll. Well, with one exception, (which I'm pretty sure was coercion) the results were unanimous exclamations of shock and dismay.

"Why would you do that, Tarilyn?"
"It's your trademark, Tarilyn!"
"But it's so cute and unique, Tarilyn."
and one particularly memorable:
"What mole? You have a mole?"

But, these are friends and even acquaintances who may simply be attempting to be polite instead of offering a true opinion. So, off to a professional. A dermatologist, in fact, where another statement is added like a daisy to my ever growing bouquet of opinions.

"Well, I could shave it down flat, but you'd have a white scar there the same size as the mole instead."

In the end he sent me home to think about it.

That's just it. I don't want to think about it any more.

I'm done with gathering opinions like so many daffodils.

mole, character, family
