Sherlock, Justified and White Collar
Spoilers abound - as well as rumination thoughts:
Sherlock:
After recently seeing Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law as Holmes and Watson, its hard not to compare them to Cumberpatch and Freeman (or vice versa). Yes, the movie and series have a very different feel to it. Yes, one is modern and the other 'canon period'. and its hard to compare such different takes on a well loved, well hashed, well known character. I've also read some mixed reviews for this most recent season of Sherlock with which I both agree and disagree. People take this stuff seriously :)
I don't see the wild attraction to Cumberpatch's Sherlock. He's the right blend of arrogrance and functioning sociopath and I laugh at his behaviour and diatribes a great deal, but I don't actually 'like' him. I like Watson though - both Jude's and Martin's version. The long suffering, won't take Sherlock's crap but helpless to say no to him. But Robert Downey Jnr's Holmes? Oh, I like him. I really really like him. His Holmes is just so much more loveable and fragile.
Two actors. Same character. Its like Dr Who :)
Do I have a point? Yes. Reichenbach Falls. Sherlock 2.3 was ... disappointing. I didn't like the 'Fall' and while it was an interesting modern take on a fall (such as it was both the literal and media opinion), it felt too... overworked. Freeman though saved the end, with his speech and plea in the graveyard. Really touching. I much preferred Game of Shadows. There the 'Fall' felt so much more of a sacrifice, so much 'bigger'. IMHO.

I just love this show so much - not much happens but hell, so much does anyway! All the ruined pot was hilarious, Tim and Art were hilarious, ... and Neal McDonough (\o/) is the new baddy.
