Dr Who christmas special 2011

Dec 29, 2011 20:22

Perhaps my expectations were too high. 2010's christmas special was just so wonderful and I had watched it twice in a matter of three days before seeing 2011... but, still.... I cannot but say that I feel disppointed about 2011's special.

It felt more like an afterthought episode than anything 'special'. Almost as if the cast and crew sat back after an exhausting roller coaster of season 6 and had a cup of tea... and suddenly jumped up and exclaimed, "Crap! We forgot the Christmas special. Quick!"

So, the result was: throw some manic Eleven enthusiam at the wall, some stiff British WW2 family drama, a plucky mother, a forest in trouble and hope to hell it'll it work. and just in case it doesn't... film a touching Doctor and Amy reunion. Sigh. Oh, oh, and a few Narnia references.

I didn't like it. It felt too rushed and too manic and too... thin. The reunion at the end was touching and I'd watch worse (and have done so) for that type of scene. Was this 2011 Special better than the ones Ten had to endure? Oh yes. No one died! But it still disappointed.

*holding thumbs for season 7*
