Movie review: The Winter Soldier

Hawt! Hawt, hawt, hawt. The man is hawt!

I hope you can tell from the opening line that this post is less review and more squee. I was blown away by First Avenger, mostly because I love World War II and Chris Evans in WWII with an awesome story and powers... well.
Now, I love a good spy thriller with intrigue and plottiness and for more than a few Robert Redford was the 'cue' for a heavier, weighter plot. I liked! I loved the spy undertones and save the world from evil Nazi/Communists from the good ole Cold War days. Did I like Cap in a spy movie as much as I liked him in a war movie? Well... yes and no. Yes, because he kicks ass and is hawt and true blue and cuts through the political rhetoric crap like a hawt knife through intrigue butter. But also no, as I love warriors and war and band of brothers, cameradie, do or die.

I think the only person in the cinema who did not know Winter Soldier was Bucky, was my Mom. Ahhhhh, the angst and torment, the 'oh noes, my bestest buddy is evol!' I jest, but man they both played it so well. Chris epitomises Cap's emotional conflict so well, and his fortitude and determination. Throw in some angst and well *throws a parade*.

I am sad that I have not kept up to date with Agents of Shield but will do so now. I don't particularly care about the 'oooh, what about Shield?' as I want 'Avengers! Now!' and spent odd moments in the movie thinking "and why doesn't he just call Tony?' Thor might be hiding out with Jane and laying low on the saving the world thing for some 'special' time and Tony has supposed hung up his Iron Man suit, but surely Bruce would have been a good 'smash' to bring along to the party? He is just one leap away.

I loved it. I loved Cap and Natasha's interaction and spy-crafting. I loved the return to Camp Leheigh. I loved all the references and clues (some of which I had to look up afterwards). I loved Fury and Hill (Aunt Robin strikes again). I loved Redford, so good, so evil. I loved Falcon (who I thank Under the Gunn for reminding me about before I saw the movie). 'On your left'. I love the bro-fest and vet cameradie. I loved Stan Lee's cameo. I miss Cap's old team. I loved Peggy's part. Zola! Evil Hydra! *\o/* I missed Agent Smith Elrond Red Skull but yay Crossbones. *crosses fingers for Crossbones to return* Black Widow was so so awesome. Loved her necklace and awesomeness. I wanted more Cap appreciated moments though. *squishes his apartment*

The fight scenes deserve a seperate line of dedication: Flippin incredible. Just wow.

Bucky torture? re-conditioning? *flails*

So much to love and squish and LOVE *so fluffy!*

I did not like that it ended. I do not like having to wait. I did not like not seeing a bruised and battered Cap chest. I want some post recovery h/c fic.

My consolation prize was buying Thor 2 on Blu-ray. *sigh* When is 2015 here?

On a completely seperate note: Was it a good spy movie/thriller? Actually, no. Too many handwaves and throwaway clues that were unresolved (or cut) and its pretty clear from the beginning that 'something is up' and Pierce is behind it and Fury is not dead. Do I care? Not really. I watch comic book movies for seperate reasons to why I watch spy movies. And I have a pretty high spy movie standards bar.
