You Think You Have Time (prompt 15)
You think you have Time.
You do.
You are the Lord of it. All of it.
And it still isn’t enough.
Not enough to tell her how much she means to you.
Not enough to tell her how she saved you.
Certainly not enough to tell her how much you want her. Because you do. Desperately. Constantly. But all you can have is her hand to hold. You tell yourself that it’s enough, this little comfort. It isn’t. Not nearly enough, because you want all of her; her heart her body, her mind. Yours, forever.
You try and tell her so often, always shying away from it at the last second. And suddenly, you’re orbiting a black hole, with the TARDIS gone and an ordinary life stretching in front of you - an ordinary life, with a house and doors and carpets and a mortgage. Not so bad with you, Rose Tyler.
Then you and Ida go exploring, ten miles down inside the bit of rock you’re existing on under the black hole. There’s something there, something…malevolent. And then you’re stuck there as the cable to the capsule comes roaring down the shaft. So you both explore some more, and find it. The deep deep well that leads to…who knows what. But you have to go down, have to…and so you do. Lowering yourself deeper and deeper inside when it strikes you. You aren’t coming back from this. You’ll never see your Rose again. Ever. So you have to tell Ida to tell her for you, because they’ll find a way to rescue her… but you won’t be there to be rescued you’ll be a long long way further inside the planet, facing who knows what. So you have to tell her, somehow. …You try and tell Ida how it is when you’re dangling from a cable over an abyss, thinking you’ll never be able to tell Rose face to face, not since you’re about to cut the cable and fall an indescribably long way, probably regenerating shortly after landing. So you tell her to tell Rose that you lo- …but your mouth won’t form the words. They’re screaming around inside your skull, rattling off the bone, reverberating and repeating infinitely…yet even now, you still can’t say them. You cut the cable, and you fall. Into the silence and the dark.
Alone.
The trouble is, you thought you had time.
You don’t, now.
Your last thought as you smash into the ground is of a beautiful smile with a hint of tongue peeking through the teeth.
Your Rose.
Your love.
For all of time.
Then Time stops for you.
