Captain Jack Harkness Character Analysis/Picspam Part 11 (Captain Jack Harkness)
I know, extremely late with this one, and I'm really sorry about that. I just never found the time to rewatch the episodes. Anyway, here is part 11. Screencaps from The Institute.
"Just a simple temporal shift - and it's beautiful"
Jack seems to really like this time period, and perhaps this is the reason for his period military outfits.
"You can always dance with me if you like"
He says this after George or whatever his name was wouldn't let him dance with Tosh. And Jack may not be completely joking here. ;P
Real Jack: "Captain Jack Harkness, 133rd Squadron"
Fake Jack: Oh.Shit.
So, yeah, Captain Jack Harkness actually isn't his real name. It's James Harper. I guess Harper is another one of those names Russel T Davies likes, the other being "Jones". Anyway, he must have had lots of other names for undercover stuff, I wonder why this one stuck.
"It's not my name, it's his. I took his. I didn't realise he was so hot!"
Yeah, that's Jack. Drop a bombshell and then get the flirt on.
"I can't explain but I served in the war in 1941. I needed a false identity so I took his"
Yeah so this explains why he took his name. He later goes on to explain that real Jack dies the next day.
"Go after her. Kiss her goodbye. Anything can happen tomorrow"
Jack...James...whatever, knows that real Jack dies the day after, and so he wants him to say goodbye to Nancy.
"I went to war when I was a boy. I was with my best friend...they made me watch him die"
Still unclear as to who "they" were, i'm assuming aliens of some kind. But anyway, Jack feels guilty, as he persuaded his friend to go. He understands how scared real Jack is for his team.
Oh yeah, Jack's got it BAD.
"Make tonight the best night of your life"
Again Jack wants real Jack to enjoy the very little time he has left. This reflects on fake Jack as he used to be all about living life to the full, but now he's immortal and he's sort of lost a bit of his full-of-life nature.
"There's no one"
Awww, he's lonely! *hugs him*
Fake Jack: "This is gonna be your last chance"
Real Jack: "That's why I came back."
Awwwwww!
"Someone saved my life. Brought me back from death. It's like they're keeping me for something...and I dunno what it is."
Jack feels he is being kept for a purpose, and I suppose this makes him keep going, he feels that he has something yet to do.
Aww doesn't he look so happy? This is probably the happiest we've seen him up to this point.
He was about to leave then probably remembered what he said to real Jack about kissing Nancy goodbye. And therefore we have kissage!
Aww and now he's sad!
And OMG he's drinking something other than water. Real Jack has obviously had a huge effect on him. Toshiko tells him real Jack would have been proud he took his name, "because here you are saving the world".
The final part should be up, um...next week sometime. =D
