Okay, here's part 7. Spoilers for Torchwood 1x07 "Greeks Bearing Gifts". Screencaps from
The Institute.
"Just once I'd like to walk into one of these tents and it would be a party"
Jack seemed quite...fun...in this episode. He has a good laugh with his team mates, especially in the first few scenes with Jack.
See what I mean? He's laughing at Owen being hassled by Gwen about getting everything wrong about the body they found. Which brings up the jealousy issues from last time...does he know about Gwen/Owen? He seems to know a lot about people...
Into secret organisation boss mode. On the phone to the Prime Minister about including Torchwood in a security something or other to "the opposition". Who are "the opposition"? And do the rest of the team know about it? Also in this scene we see Jack has extensive knowledge in Greek mythology. Don't know what significance this has though...
Jack senses Tosh trying to read his thoughts. Now how does he do that? And also she seems not to be able to hear anything, so is he blocking her in some way? I liked the way his face changed from amusement to worry and then he tried to seem normal, asking if there was food on his face. He didn't ask Tosh about it, so did he actually know it was her trying to read his mind?
Jack stands on a tall building...again. I stand by my theory that he goes up to high places to think. He's probably thinking about the thing that happenned with Tosh earlier, or about what the alien machine they found with the body is.
"My guess is you're not from around these parts"
Now what was with the change in accent here? Probably that line just sounds better with a sort of southern accent (thanks
ladykoori for pointing that out, I'm not the best at differentiating between all the different American accents). So he's obviously figured out what the alien machine is. It's a transporter, built for one prisoner and one guard. He figures out Mary's backstory and encourages her to share.
And also goes in to alien tech squee mode.
Jack seems to somehow be able to project his thoughts into Toshiko's mind. Has he simply stopped blocking her from reading his thoughts (if he even can do this) or can he actually do some freaky thought projection work?
"You smell...different to them"
So, is this because he wears a slightly outdated cologne? Or is it because he's from the 51st Century, or could there be another reason? When she asks him what he is he repiles "I don't know". Well, if he doesn't even know how are we meant to figure it out? So, yeah he sends her to the centre of the sun. And seems quite an ass about it, making jokes that it's night so it won't be hot. He really is all about justice and the like. She killed all those people, she does not deserve to live.
"It was like you were...dead"
Jack's face at this...maybe he is dead. Like living dead, but not like vampire. Oh I'm just confusing myself now. Anyway he seems really affected by this, for one reason or another.
So...in true Jack Harkness style, he changes the subject. Talks about what normal bosses would do in his situation. And if he could beat people. He comforts Tosh and listens to her. It is obvious he cares a lot for his team, wants them to be happy and feel comfortable in Torchwood.
This man just gets more and more mysterious, and therefore harder to analyse! Less ambiguity next time, please? :D
