It's fine. The concern wouldn't be the diameter of the jar, but the height. If it's taller than the spider's legspan, there's a possibility of the spider crawling up, falling and injuring themselves. Try filling the jar with substrate so there's about 2 inches of room from the top of the substrate to the lid of the jar.

I'd recommend switching them to deli cups. Easier to open and close, cheap, and easily maintained.

Thanks. I actually had some deli cups, but they were really deep and the diameter at the top was a bit bigger that 4" so I was worried about using them. But since I really didn't have anything to worry about, Tesla is now living in a deli cup and doing pretty good.

Love your icon, btw.

Hell to the yeah, deli cups are where it's at. Since she's terrestrial, she'll want to be able to walk around a bit. You never know, you could have ended up with a hyperactive T.

Why, thank you.

it should be fine. what type of T is tesla? if terrestrial, i'd go with the above poster. arboreals, while some don't show arboreal tendencies when younger (poecs, p. murinus, etc.) some favour height right off the bat (avics) and its best to give it to them anyway.

also, deli cups are pretty much as awesome as you can get for enclosure for the little guys.

She's a terrestrial (Aphonopelma sp. New River to be exact). I've got her in a deli cup now with the substrate filling most of it so there's not much room for her to climb and fall.

Thanks for the input. It really helped.
