Well, not so much of a lesson, but more of a “check this out.”

Matthew Barney’s Cremaster Cycle is a series of five films done from 1994 to 2002 that explore the potentiality of the embryo in it’s undifferentiated reproductive state; the first six weeks of development when an embryo shows no signs of being male or female. The films range in length from 40 minutes to three hours. I regretfully say I haven’t seen any of them. The Guggenheim has a copy of the series but hasn’t shown it since 2003. (Shakes fist at sky) So, I can’t say too much, other than that his subject matter is intriguing and his symbolism and imagery are beautifully played out.

Check out the man’s site:

But more importantly, view the trailer, and yes, the trailer covers all 5 films.
