I have no idea why the movie Clerks would jolt my memory about my Grandfather - but it did.
(premise: hubby has been home sick and rented it, he'd never seen the movie before)
When us kids were little we used to stay at my Grandparents home on Whidby for one to two weeks at a time. I always stayed longer - Grandpa and I were very close, closer than anyone else in the family. Since kids get up early no matter what I tried to quietly sneak into my Grandparents room one morning to wake up my Grandpa, come play! Its a nice day!
Something stopped me cold.
Grandpa's glasses were on the table by his bed!
It startled me so much that both woke up and asked what was wrong, thinking I had been down to the dock by myself or some other mischief that I could never lie to them about.
The words were very real in a child-like way.
"But Grandpa! How can you see your dreams without your glasses on?"
I've always been a vivid dreamer so it didn't make sense at the time.
That is one memory I cherish no matter how old I get...and now my glasses sleep on the nightstand as well.
