Yes, I'm still alive.......

Its like everything is finally coming to an end - settling with insurance companies and lawyers and credit card companies and employers and.......everything that has gone wrong since deployment is giving me a friggin break!

The outside of the house looks sterling.
The little stuff that needed fixing (2 pages of "little" things) are fixed.

I finally got my eye exam and sonofabitch - the last place I went to in Woodinville gave me a screwy prescription and the last year, I been taking off my glasses more than leaving them on. But they carried the "Neo" line in titanium that no one else had - these frames have held up since 1995 and that is unheard of for me. Changed lenses twice, expected. They sold to someone else and it was creepy going in there - I suspect they won't last long with the new owners. Though I thought it might be too expensive I tried Expressions in Eyeware. They were waaaaaaaaaay cheaper all the way round with a far better selection.

I wanted to try contacts again (late 80's last time I tried to wear em') but my eyeballs are funny (as in funny strange, not funny ha ha..maybe). This time doc tried *4* different brands to get a fit where they "follow" my iris, the 'funny' part is I'm used to blinking to get them to go where I'm looking which means it isn't a good fit. They stay in the same place no matter where my eyeballs are.

So messing around while the doc was on vacation before my next check, Kay who is a hoot gave me samples of "Autum" and "Sea Green" lenses as demos to play with. Three things happened:
1: "Autum" looks totally natural, it just highlights the color. They are supposed to be "intense" but they aren't on me. Cool!
"Sea Green" is supposed to be muted, they made my eyes look creepy as in "B-movie can't tell iris from pupil" look. Bad choice. Good that they are free demo's.
2: I went back a day later and asked why the demo lenses fit better and felt better. The curve is the same as my prescription that most optricians fit for, its the "other" curve they don't that this brand was better for me. Its what the doc was trying to get but didn't know I was interested in color - guess I should have told her so she wasn't so frustrated (she's ultra picky about contacts that fit properly). She was surprised but happy "they follow your eyes like they are supposed to".
3.I am "mono-ocular" and figure this out myself. So only my left eye needs the prescription contact and my right eye doesn't. Most people will either do one of three things: wear two different prescriptions OR toss them and not ever wear them OR do like I am doing, wear one in the lesser strength eye (duh, she has to tell people this?).

I have astigmatism in both with a little farsightness in my left eye. That didn't match my last prescription of bifocals of which cost me $325 for graduating lenses in a hand-made frame for astigmatism on top too strong and farsighted in *both* eyes. Pissed! Without any correction I can still see 20/20 - its being indoors, computers or reading I need them.
I did get a new pair of glasses too since the current lenses are scratched pretty much though they will be a good backup pair. Whats funny is Kay commented on how I kept pulling the handmade German or Italian frames without knowing - its because they feel like they will last and be comfortable too. Guess spending time there also made a difference in the way I pick out watches as well - always handmade and top of the line here, standard there.

For $357 I got a handmade set of frames, graduated lenses with anti-glare, two boxes of contacts (one non-prescription, one prescription cuz they are colored and I can't wear one without it looking funny), the inital exam and 4 visits so far to get good fits plus one more to come when all the prescription stuff comes in this week.

That is cheap for everything that is *supposed* to be on or in my eyes, the next set of contacts I'll get from the military since they are $20 a box cheaper but I didn't want to wait the three to five weeks for them this time.
The "Autum" color looks way too cool ;)
