Proof that even Don Bluth's side projects are better than today's studio backed films

I'm talking, of course, about Banjo the Woodpile Cat. Directed by Don Bluth and starring Scatman Crothers? Seriously, how did the universe NOT implode into a singularity of awesome when this came out? Because Don Bluth hadn't yet made The Secret of NIMH- that's the only explanation I can think of that makes any sense.

It's sad to think that today's film makers have to struggle just to make something that doesn't suck, when there were people so talented that they literally made it look easy.
