Speaking of Spaetzel

When I was at IKEA on Saturday, they have these casserole baking dishes with metal trivets for serving. I'd seen them the last time I was there in July, too. I cannot find them in the new catalog. Grrr.

When I was a kid, our HS German Club used to go to Black Forest Inn for lunch once a year. They serve this baked spaetzel dish in a small oval casserole dish similar to the IKEA one. The spaetzel was combined with a bechamel sauce, covered in mozerella cheese (and sliced tomatoes atop the cheese, but I always had the toms left off) and baked until the cheese was all roasty-toasty. I still get it when I go there. In fact, I usually still just have a sausage (brats usually, but weisswurst if they have it) and the spaetzel bake.

I was going to ask Mom for a couple those casserole dishes for my birthday, but now I guess I'll have to run by there and make sure they still have them. I'd guess they're either discontinued or not a standard item. They are only $15 each.
