On a bright and chirpy note, I have finally had my Funny Hat Day in celebration of being officially crowned "Doctor". Ta-daa! Graduating at the same time were my husband and several of our friends, which made it a very large and bubbly gathering. We were planning to curtsey to the Chancellor instead of settling for the boring old bow, but attempting a curtsey in one's PhD robes on stage in front of 400 people while being videotaped proved a bit much, and none of us were brave enough in the end to risk it. Pity. Would've been funny.
The weather was every bit as memorable as my wedding day: freezing, rainy and stormy with gale-force winds, and the ceremony was accompanied by impressive rolls of thunder. They say it's good luck for a marriage if it rains; perhaps that means it also bodes well for our future careers. :D
On a completely unrelated note, I've spent the last couple of hours re-reading the wonderful POTO fic,
Hide a Sin by WzlWmn. For those of you with a recreational or professional interest in fanfic (ahem,
oblomskaya, are you still looking for samples?), this is definitely one to check out if you haven't already. It's a page-turning read, quick and fun, but it's also a story that leaves you with such a sense of heartache and yet satisfaction. Almost all characters are original (although there are key appearances by important canon characters), but don't let that put you off: the substance of the story is very much related to the canon, and there isn't a Mary Sue in sight. (Beware adult content, naughty words and the like.) Enjoy!
