A couple of nights ago I dreamt that some guy was playing Ravel's Bolero. If you don't know this song, it starts out quietly with the main melody played by (I think) a clarinet. The melody gets passed around the orchestra as the rest of the musicians slowly crank up the volume, until by the end it's thundering along. In my dream, the guy started the song on maximum volume. I woke up before the end of the song, but it would've been deafening.
Why am I posting this? Apart from the fact that I don't often remember my dreams and I like to document them when I do, I haven't heard this piece of music for about twenty years. It's been so long that it took me about an hour of laying awake in my bed before I could remember the name of the song. I find it fascinating that the human brain can suddenly think about something that's been completely off the radar for decades.
