So I have been thinking and freaking out and giving up and been accepting about this election. I was worried about the McCain-Palin bounce however after some reading and introspection my fears and the fears of all those other Democrats (which I am not) may be unfounded. The RNC was second so of course they will have the second bounce. It's only been a week since the RNC ended so they have that bounce.
Then there is the wild card bounce of Palin. I think this is the cause of the spike in McCain's numbers. First, she's new and intriguing. Second, she's a woman. Third, no one knows anything about her. We do know that she can stretch the truth... the bridge to nowhere, earmarks? Really? The press is finally starting to grab onto these things with substanative facts. So some of her shimmer will fade. People will realize she is a pretty conservative person.
Also McCain has gone extremely negative. I think this might be another wild card. Most of McCain's attacks have been lies or stretching of truth. If people wake up to this, just check out factcheck.org, I think it will backfire. To that affect all the times that McCain has used the pig with lipstick thing or desparaging comments about Chelsea Clinton might turn people off. Or all the conservatives bashing Clinton for pulling the sex card and then all of them using it. Watch the Daily Show or the new Rachel Maddow (sp?) show on MSNBC. They take clips of people contradicting themselves. Its actually pretty funny. Rove has gotten away with bashing and devisive politics before. There are some pretty good quotes of his too, where he contradicts himself. I wonder if political types forget things immediately after saying them.
I'll be okay though. People are generally intelligent and with the internet the truth is more likely to find its way out there. I hope.
