So, I went to the Big Easy this weekend. I had a lot of fun and am super glad I got to see Steven. I forgot how much I truly missed him. He is such a nice guy and a good friend. Out of all of my CM's, I see myself keeping in touch with him. And, he's the one who got booted, how ironic.
We got there Saturday night and hung out at Steven's apartment and then went to Friar Tuck's. They were serving free well drinks to the ladies. Needless to say, I stumbled home that night. Then, I proceeded to drunk dial half of my work cell phone list. Luckily, they have all seen and heard me this way before. I also ended up calling a lot of people off my personal cell. I was definatly excited to talk to E, my closest friend from my 1st year in A*Corps. I don't remember 90% of the phone calls that I made and I still have people calling and laughing at me. Also, this is the first time my team has seen my completely obliterated. They say I'm a happy drunk.....they say that that is good and that I am fun! I've heard this before; my friend Andrew, who is a TL with me, says that I am usually more fun when I am trashed. Not a good thing to know.
The next day, we all slept in until noon and then headed off to the French Market in the French Quarter. While there, I went shopping for some gifts. I spent way too much money but had fun. We then headed to the Houka Cafe where we sat around for two and a half hours smoking a double-apple with a hint of mint houka, eating excellent tapas, and having great conversation. I haven't been this relaxed in a very long time, maybe even in forever. After the Houka Cafe, we headed for a bar for the cheeseburger that I was craving since seeing one before the Houka Cafe. We had gone to Port of Call where they sell amazing burgers, you should get one. So, we ended up at The Boot where I got some good beer and good eats! Then, we went into a really cool head shop and proceeded to chat with everyone who came in.
Finally, on Monday, we headed to Jackson Square where a lot of artist chill and sell their work. First, we went to Cafe du Monde and got some really good beignets and coffee (lots of powdered sugar) and then, I got my palm, tarot, and crystals read. The woman was excellent and told me a lot of things that she couldn't even fathom knowing. She told me both postive and negative things and did it for only $15. I usually don't believe in things like this and do it for the fun but this lady was really good. I was impressed. After that, we walked around the French Market again and then Steven took us on a tour of the 7th & upper and lower 9th wards; he also brought us to his house which was in the 7th ward. It had flooded during the hurricane and is no longer inhabitable because of the mold and because the house sunk. It is still completely devestated and I couldn't help but tear up because a really close friend of mine, Steven, had to suffer through it. I only wish that everyone had the chance to see this through the eyes of a local, which I did. There is so much devistation but so much hope in everyone. People always talk about the stupidity of rebuilding a city that sits below sea level but, if you had the chance to see and feel the atmosphere and character and color of the area, you would understand.
