As a kid, we were always allowed to choose one small present to open on Xmas Eve. There was a limited selection of presents we could choose (usually one of three little presents), and I have fond memories of this tradition. Frolic, however, strongly disagrees with it and thinks that it detracts from Xmas morning if you've already gotten to open a present the night before.
Last Xmas (or perhaps the Xmas before),
birthingway posted about her family's tradition, which is to give each kid a new set of pajamas on Xmas Eve, which they can wear to bed that night. I thought this was a pretty good idea and made a pair of spider-print PJ bottoms for Gavin, which he really liked. It works out well because it satisfies my desire to give something to the kid(s) on Xmas Eve, and Frolic is fine with it because it doesn't involve opening any of their presents.
So this year I'll be making PJ bottoms for both Gavin and Connor. I hate trying to draft pants from scratch and I can't remember where I put my envelope of sewing patterns, so I went looking online. There's a good tutorial for making pajama pants
here, in case anybody else is interested. I have some soft flannel fabric that's white with little black animals all over it, and I'll use that to make their matching PJ pants.
Still so much to do before Xmas. I have to get Frolic a present, and package and mail the presents to my nieces and nephew (yeah, it'll make it to California by Christmas, sure it will), and buy presents for Frolic's nieces and mail those, and write Christmas cards and mail them with pictures to family members, and put together the kids' plastic kitchen, and finish wrapping presents, and and and... *slams face into wall* Xmas: fun times.
