That feels nice

Periodically people contact me for assistance re: homebirthing. They're trying to figure out whether they want a homebirth, or where to find a midwife, or how to pay for one, etc. (I seem to be the go-to person on these questions because my social circle knows I know a lot about homebirth, so as soon as one of *their* friends/acquaintances has a question, it's all, "I've got this friend tamago23 that you should talk to...") I even can't count the number of people that I've answered questions for (and I certainly don't mind doing it - I'm not by any means complaining about being the go-to person on this subject).

But you know what feels especially nice? When someone decides, after talking to me, that they really will go for a homebirth. Or when I help them with arrangements for a homebirth that they want to have (helping them find a midwife or the funds to pay one, etc) and then they successfully have a homebirth.

A few months ago I offered assistance to someone kind-of local to me. Today I got this note from her: I had my baby the other day.. When i was holding her in the pool after all was said and done.. I really understood what you ment by this empowering moment when you give birth and catch the baby yourself.. All you can think is "I DID IT!!" Thanks for sharing the birth story with me.

Yeah, that feels nice. :)

birth, yay
