Hi! Thanks so much for making me a vid--this is my first year doing Festivids, and I'm really excited about it. I'm sorry for being so late about putting up a letter, but I've just had a really busy couple of months. I hope this can be helpful; if you've already started vidding or want to go in a completely different direction, that's cool with me! I said most of what I wanted to say in my signups, but I'll try to add some details here, and I hope they'll be helpful. As a general note, I'm really not very picky about music, although if you decide to go for music in a language other than English, a translation of the lyrics would be great, since I really like song lyrics.
What I said in the sign-up: "I love this movie. There's such a lot of beautiful views of the cathedral and Paris, and the colors are so great. I love Quasimodo and his growth in the film, but it'd be cool to look at Esmeralda's arc, too."
All of this is still true. I like early music, so if you had some Anonymous 4 or Harp Consort songs you've been dying to vid something to, I'd be filled with glee over it, but honestly, I'm not picky about music, so if a recent pop song inspires you, I'm 100% happy with that, too. One of the things I really like is how the cathedral ends up kind of being a character in the movie, so if you could incorporate any moments like that in your vid, it would be amazeballs.
What I said in the sign-up: "I really love how warm this show is, if that makes sense: how good Mma Ramotswe is, and how much love there is between her and her friends and her neighborhood. Anything that could capture that would be awesome, but I also love the crime-solving, and Grace's quest to be the best assistant detective ever."
I guess I'd probably want something upbeat for this one? My favorite character's Precious, but I'd also really enjoy a Grace vid or an ensemble vid or heck, if you felt so inclined, a JLB Matekoni vid.
What I said in the sign-up: "This is such a huge, epic show, there's a lot you could focus on, but my favorite aspects are the way Deokman attracts friends to herself and her clever plans, if that helps."
All this is still true--there's so much in this show! Although I'd love pretty much any vid for this show, my main interest in watching it really wasn't the ships, and there have already been some really great vids highlighting the relationship between Deokman and Mishil, so I guess my preference would be for something highlighting Deokman's friendships or family or her qualities as a leader.
What I said in the sign-up: "What a fun movie! I love the flashbacks, I love the fashion, and most of all I love the friendship between Romy and MIchele. I'd really love anything that focuses on their relationship and their eventual realization of their own awesomeness."
If you had an upbeat eighties song sitting around just waiting for an opportunity to be vidded, I feel like this would be a great opportunity! I don't know that I really have much to add, except to emphasize again that the Romy/Michele friendship is really where it's at for me.
What I said in the sign-up: "So many dance sequences! So much color! I really like the humor in this movie, so a funny vid would be awesome, but really, I'd like just about anything, especially of the Don/Cathy, Don/Cosmo, or Don/Cathy/Cosmo variety."
There's so much cool going on visually with this movie, and I like the movies within movies as well. I think I'd probably want something upbeat, songwise?
What I said in the sign-up: "I used to love this show! I love the combination of the "stuck in space" trope with the "high school full of misfit kids" trope, and anything that played up the latter would be awesome. My favorite characters were Rosie and Bova, but I really loved everybody, so a vid about anybody would make my day."
I was just rewatching some of this show on YouTube, and it's really another one where an ensemble vid would be awesome. I like watching the ups and downs of how the misfit kids turn themselves into a Stardog crew! Also the cheesy visual effects are rocking my world.
I hope at least some of that was useful for you. Again, I'm so sorry about the delay in posting my letter, so if you'd like to go in completely different directions, that's cool--I'm sure I'll be thrilled with anything you come up with. I hope you can have fun with it. Thanks very much in advance!
Best,
Tam Cranver
