New acquisitions

On the vague off-chance I'll be sent to the far-reaches of Asia, where acquiring English-language books could prove tricky, I am on a sub-conscious mission to buy as many new books as possible.

To wit, the Bone one-volume collection (which is a door-step of a collection, something like 1400 pages worth!), Roger Levy's Icarus (Reckless Sleep and Dark Heavens were both excellent), Jon Courtenay Grimwood's End Of The World Blues (it's set in Japan so I couldn't resist, even though Stamping Butterflies was rubbish), and Tim Powers's latest Three Days To Never (featuring Einstein, Chaplin, the Mossad and the undead).

Report to follow. Maybe. Well, one for Bone definitely and maybe the JCG. At the moment, the latter is looking as crowbarred together as the plot strands in Stamping Butterflies so things are not looking good. The former is wonderful in spite of pulling out so many damn fantasy cliches that my teeth hurt.
