Game Prep (RPG)

Jan 06, 2011 17:59

I was just doing some game prep for our Rogue Trader RPG on Sunday when I noticed something. I couldn't realistically go forward with the plot as intended because none of my players asked about the system they were helping to defend. To them it was another dot on the map. So there are things left unexplained ( Read more... )

I just checked it out, out of interest, and fuck me! The graph just plummets! I wonder what caused such a drastic drop? Their stuff has been too expensive for years, but I wonder what changed to cause the shares to drop so rapidly? All I could find online was that they revised their profit forecast. Does that really do that to shares?

Markets were jittery I think after HMV took a tumble after their profit warning.

Odd thing is I thought GW were doing really well, their novels seem to be selling like hotcakes, the games do well, and they are even in the process of making a movie.

Perhaps the movie is absorbing more money than they'd like though.

I was surprised though, I really did think GW were a healthy company. But perhaps t hey're being hit by the cheap knock-off figures starting to leak out of China.

I've not seriously been into it since I was a kid. It just got waay to expensive. It never used to be - it was a hobby I could afford on my paper round. But now it's like £12 for a metal terminator, or whatever, that is just too much.

I've spoken to local game shop owners who have said how shitty their business practices are. Also, apparently they are trying to get it down to one staff member per store, in an effort to cut costs. I don't see how that is going to work come games night.

Space Hulk will always be a favourite of mine. Maybe I should go get some more figures for it before they go under! Deathwing squads and Genestealer hybrids for everyone! w00t!

Yeah, I was into a bit when I was younger, but stopped when I realised it was just too expensive.

And indeed when I realised what total bastards the bosses at GW appeared to be. Like when White Dwarf shifted from being the best gaming mag bar none, to purely focussing on GW products. When they stopped carrying all sorts of interesting other games.

Heck, my copy of Talisman was published by GW back in the day. Judge Dredd RPG was GW. Paranoia. But they decided roleplaying was over, and wargaming and miniatures were the future.

Space Hulk was awesome though. I've still got mine, but nobody who fancies playing it.

Yeah, White Dwarf used to feature D&D and WFRP scenarios. Then it just changed into an extended advertisement. You knew that the latest army/unit was going to win the battle report. Eventually, they even cut the black and white mail order pages out of the back, replaced with adverts for the boxed sets. That miffed me because I used to buy a lot of bits from Mail Order. They seem to discourage that nowadays ( ... )

Yeah, Bonnie got the new Talisman, which is really what got me back into playing it when she and Cian came to visit, and we got my ancient old copy out, and discovered it was still great fun to play.

Albeit very time-consuming.

Charity shop spacehulk find, awesome. That game can sell for hundreds these days too. Nice find. I did love spacehulk. Probably my favourite of the pure GW boardgames that I played.

Current favourite boardgame is Last Night On Earth though.

Never really got into card based games. The only one I've played a lot of is Munchkin.
