Ashes to Ashes S3 Ep 4 Reaction Post (Part One)

A2A 3x04 Reaction Post

Back on Tuesday I broke my own rule concerning spoilers and watched the episode’s preview clip, you know with Gene letting off the girl with the gun and acting generally suspicious? Was really worried for Gene then, and what they’re doing to him. It seemed to me that the way he cocked the gun at the end of that clip was setting him up to look like he’s capable of murder. I’m writing this before the episode begins so that I can look back and see how my perceptions of it change later. I wonder what secrets (if any) will be uncovered about Gene this week?

Anyway, after this we’ll be four hours down, four to go. It makes me sad that we’re already halfway through the series, because I’m a sappy girl that never wants to see the end of her favourite show (even if it’s not really her favourite show, since Life on Mars ended years ago). And I have a lotta love for Gene. A lot. Which is why I object in Ashes when they turn him into something he’s not. Still! We shall see, and I really must go downstairs now, or I will miss the start.

---

-          So the ep begins with the preview clip. I love the way Gene says “I can’t see it!” Just something in the way he pronounces it makes me go all wibbly. XD

-          Gene running into line of fire?

-          Gene cocking gun??? What’s he doing?

-          Alex says he deliberately let her go.

-          She’s an undercover copper! Oh thank god! My faith in Gene is restored. :P

-          I love the titles, and the way Alex’s V/O changes every week.

-          Gene has a hissy fit and beats up the phone. <3 Is it bad that I wanted to compare this to Sam’s mega throwing the phone at the floor thing in 1x06? XD

-          Gene tells Keats to bugger off. :D Me likey the Keats hate.

-          Dolly Parton’s funbags. XD Another great Gene line.

-          Gene says “Good girl, Shaz.” How much am I loving the Gene/Shaz interaction this series? That’s right, people. A LOT. Not in that way, for once.

-          Alex smiles at Keats as he’s about to leave the room? Why does she keep doing that?

-          DCI Wilson. Got knocked down by Austin Allegro. Car accident = Sam references. DCI Wilson looks and sounds A LOT like Harry Woolf, in my opinion. Got a grudge. Getting old, ill. Personal vendetta. (Oh and guess what? In the end he turns out to be bent! XD)

-          Wilson says to Alex - nice tits btw! I’d be offended on her behalf, and I sort of am, but it’s sorta lessened by the fact that I totally agree. :P

-          Ray insults Shaz. Oh joy, Ray’s back to being a bastard again this week. Why am I surprised about this? Someone doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘continuity’ *grumbles*.

-          Chris/Shaz scene. Of course I care. Hand-holding! Tempting the shippers, thinking they’ll get back together but…”Oh, Chris. I meant as a mate.” Alex/Shaz shipper that I am, not exactly heartbroken by that. But…why bother with all of S1 and 2 in terms of their relationship?

-          Druggie (at which point I’m already thinking about Gene having flashbacks to Stu, so sue me). After Gene leaves tells Alex that she belongs here, she’s staying. There’s the noise of a train close-by and I can’t help but remember another train tunnel from LoM 2x08.

-          BUT THEN IT GETS EVEN BETTER.

-          Was too slow to read all of it but I caught 6620 on the wall. Quite happy with the continued clue, still stumped as to what it might mean.

-          Then the camera moves, and I’m pretty damn sure it says ‘Molly was here’?

-         THEN THE CAMERA MOVES.

-         GENE <3 SAM :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

-         Gene says something about doing anything to get a girl’s knickers off. Alex and Gene look at each other awkwardly for a moment, as if they’re both thinking the same thing. Blink and you’ll miss it Gene/Alex moment. So sue me, I see both ships in this ep.

-         Ray is being a right bastard again. :(

-         This is murder. Um, well done Alex. Stating the obvious. Or, as Gene so eloquently puts it: “Thank you, Quincy”.

-         Hunt! Stafford! Routine, Gene! They’ve got history.

-         Old Hunt charm. What does Terry mean? (Um, hello, Terry Haslam 2x07 anybody?) Who was Gene chatting up?

-         Gene walks with his hands behind his back. Not only do I find this sexy, but I also register that it has some symbolic meaning within the text. Before the plot moves on and I give up trying to analyse. :P

-         Lovely shot of Gene and Alex on the bridge. Someone make a wallpaper of that, please?

-         The shirt-lifters come out. You’d know, Gene.

-         Out of closet! All over me! Why are they pushing the Gene/Keats? XD

-         Poor Louise. :(

-         Drug overdoses, several. Gene has to be thinking of Stu at some point?

-         “I know what it’s like to go from one world to another.” I love Alex. <3

-         Chris trying to be supporting to Louise - AWW! :) (I’m very happy, if it means Chris is getting over Shaz.)

-         Lots of both Chris/Shaz and Chris/Louise in this ep.

-         Ray eyes up Louise creepily. Why so horrible, Ray?

-         Keats is being weird and supportive to Louise. Makes my skin crawl. And yet…I can’t help but wonder what his motives are after all…

-         Gene standing in his office, watching Keats, ominous music playing.

-         At this point I want to point out how much I love Chris’ mad flowery shirt. And by ‘love’, I mean ‘laugh hysterically at’. XD

-         But then Chris refers to Keats as the Guv and I’m all sad again. Shut up, Chris. :(

-         Chris and Louise share a smile as he walks past.

-         In the next shot Alex is looking across at Shaz in the same sort of way. Shippy much? Goes over to talk to her. Stars? Just interested. Just me. NOT a big deal. Like me. I ship them so damn hard. <3

-         Gene/Sam. Written in Alex’s notebook. Excuse me while I bounce around the room again…:DDDD

-         Then she writes STARS and underlines it multiple times.

-         Suddenly man with half a head pops up, but it turns out Alex is dreaming again. I think.

-         Those are some mega shoulders pads Alex is wearing. *admires her figure*

-         Why is she snooping in Gene’s office? Empty filing cabinet? What does that mean?

-         Ray tells Chris he’s wasting his time with Louise. Ray’s got it in the bag, it’s animal attraction. Um, Ray? This is why I used to hate you, remember? (Sky knows she’s a hypocrite because she let Wilson be sexist earlier because she fancies Alex but because she doesn’t fancy Louise she’s defending her. That makes zero sense, doesn’t it? :P)

-         Ray says people who go undercover are headcases, the lot of ‘em. Um…Ray? A2A 1x05? Went undercover AS GAY GUY? Or did you forget that bit? Never mind, let’s blame the writers. :P Also, if Sam isn’t dead and is really undercover…

-         Gene’s “driven”, says Keats. “Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and worry that I’m in the wrong and not him.” Um. Um. They are really pushing the slash here, aren’t they?

-         You look strung out, says Keats. Alex hasn’t been drugged, has she? Not sleeping well. Bit more Alex/Keats. (Y’know, on Crotchbook we were worried that Keats wouldn’t get enough love. He seems to be getting plenty this ep. And you know what? Keats/Litton just might become canon very soon. :DDD) Against my better judgement I am actually starting to like Keats in this scene.

-         Alex says she’s being haunted. As she speaks the same romantic sort of music plays that played earlier when she talked to Shaz about stars.

-         Bit early. Gene! <3 Interrupt your coffee morning. Early bird catches the bastard. <333.

-        Continues in Part Two.

ashes to ashes, alex/shaz, torchwood, public, life on mars, sam/gene
