Attempt number one in making bread has been a failure. The bread turned out too salty (despite the fact that I used only half of the amount of salt one should use) and the loaf did not rise for reasons unknown. For future loaves, I think that I will add more yeast and use rubber gloves since I don't like the feel of sticky dough all over my hands. I must say though, my hands feel wonderfully smooth.
As a side note, perhaps I will use 1/4 the normal amount of salt since while there is definitely too much this time, the salt makes a nice counterpoint to the sweetness of jam.
Recipe:
4-5 cups flour
1/2 tspn dry active yeast -> 1 tspn?
2 cups warm water -> WARM not hot
2 tbspn salt -> 1/2 tbspn salt
1 egg
1 tbspn cold water
2 cups hot water -> warm ok
Or, so I shall try
cooking,
bread,
baking,
food
