And thus endeth the good fight of the liberty lovers

Well, seems like the fairy tale is over, ladies and gentlemen. After a long "stand-off" which saw the authorities not moving a finger to take over the shack that the Bundys & Co. had occupied in their bid for glory & liberty, and after those noble freedom-fighters against the oppressive Gubmint(TM) had started running out of food, booze, and ammo I ( Read more... )

Gotta love when libertarianism turns violent. But I've got to give one thing to those clowns. They at least put their, ehm... bull's eye where their ass is.

It's been on my mind lately, how the left and right in the US seem to have their own distinct bogeymen - respectively, the rich, and the government.

I mean, on the one hand, you have the occupy movement, which contends that the government (and in turn everyone else) needs to be freed from interference from the 1%. (And that more/different government is the solution.)
And on the other hand you have these weirdos, with their own "occupation", declaring that the everyone (including the rich) needs to be freed from interference from the government. (And that the 1% can be allies in this fight.)

It seems like there are a lot of parallels, but you know, there's also one very distinct difference:

These people brought guns along.

Why? Well, the occupy movement doesn't expect the wealthy to actually show up and disperse them. But these "sagebrush rebellion" people do expect the government to show up and do exactly that. Makes for a whole different atmosphere. And that difference is enough for the whole liberal community to mock them ( ... )

The product of lethal, systematic indoctrination from an early age, I suppose. I just hope he didn't raise those eleven kids to become assholes like himself.

Unfortunately, it's not quite over yet. The refuge is still being occupied by other members of that group, and from all accounts, the guy left in charge back there is even more of an extremist than Bundy was.

The worst thing is that they want a fight. They hope to be, for want of a better term, martyred. They hope that another "Ruby Ridge" will finally be the spark to ignite the revolution they're all hoping for.

If they were of any other race or religion, we'd rightly call them out as the terrorist jihadists that they are. I find it ironic that those in my country most likely to decry so-called "political correctness" are the least likely to be willing to call these people out for what they really are. Call a white man a terrorist, and suddenly it's all hurt feelings and pearl-clutching.

The conservatives who love to complain about "political correctness gone amok" are every bit as guilty of their own version of it.

Felony murder charges usually stem from a pissed off victims family (not likely here?), or a pissed off DA/law enforcement - but without more details being released...

Who thinks that could stick in this case?
